I have been talking to buddies and fellow hunters about this topic. I understand what the ODNR is trying to do by starting the season early, my only concern is that alot of mature/dominant bucks will be killed before they can breed the does. There is a reason that Ohio's deer herd is IMO top in the country. I think I am lookin more in to than I should, that is why I would like to see what you guys have to say. I say if you start the season that early it should be doe only for 3 weeks. This could be a long discussion or short I just wanted to get the ball rolling

You hunt in a prime location in Jefferson Co. Take as many does as you need. I have 3 in the freezer now and I think I'm done. Did you know that this is Shortcreek's 3rd year for practicing a 4 point antler restriction on one side? Have you been seeing better bucks lately? We've been practicing the same for about 5 years now on the northside. Your property is an ideal location for TQDM.

? My property is in Guernsey county. I will take as many as I need, this being said we also need to be cautious of the amount of mature does we take out of an area. If your property can sustain a 15 doe a year kill than by all means kill them. I am just concerned about the long term effects of an early season.

Is it really that early? They moved it up what, a week? Or are you talking about the fact we hunt all of October?

The reason our deer herd is so good as little to due with when our season starts in my opinion. It has to due with the one buck limit, our age structure, genetics, nutrition, no gun season during the rut, and the fact that a lot of Ohio hunters practice their own form of "QDM". We are going to be fine. How could it get much better?

Long term concerns, the season always opened on that first weekend in October. So yes 2 weeks is early in my book, I have 8 years of video off of the farm I rented (260 acres) showing deer patterns changing almost overnight at the end of Sept. and early Oct.. I wish I could stay on longer but gotta run........keep em coming!;)
