Every now and then I like to ask myself that. "WHY DO WE HUNT".
It's nice to know if things have changed, and they always do! At this time I might want to hunt turkey, morrels, or peace of mind!
To get in the woods and sit back on a old oak and inhale it all in.
I might dose off and dream of fresh deer steak on a glowing fire.
Noing fall is comming up sooner then I will be ready. Hoping I can take the 'LIFE" of another deer in the most primitive way. Yes I do enjoy killing a deer to acomplish a primitive need imbedded in me through blood of my families history. We have been hunters since we landed in this great Country in the sixteen hundreds.
I do not heed the people that might think i'm a blood thirsty savage that lusts blood, no I kill to nurture myself with food and shelter.and life. God gave that to us all! I choose to harvest it. I'm not sorry if anyone can't figure it out!!!

WHY DO YOU HUNT?

I hunt to unwind and relax. I don't mind not getting something every time I go out. I'm usually happy if I at lease see something.

I'd like to say that I hunt for food, but with the amount of money I spend on hunting stuff a year I could buy plenty of meat... There is something kinda cool about eating something you've hunted and killed. Mabye it's that "hunter-gatherer" syndrome...:)

I do prefer bow hunting over gun hunting any day of the week. It's more serieal and much more of a challenge.

Hunting is a tradition that goes back to the beginning of time, killing what you need to survive. I love it and encourage others to check it out if they have never had the opportunity in their life to hunt.. I don't consider it being blood thirsty when you hunt to put food on the table, it's when you kill for the thrill and don't use the practices for the table that myself and many others don't have a use for. Your not a hunter or a sportsman if you don't use the game you take, thats what separates sportsmen from the one's who say that they are a sportsman in my opinion they give the real guys a bad name.

I like to hunt but I think you have to understand hunting to me is not just killing. Its an entire process that I love. I love to spend time shooting my bow and gun. Going through my gear, and camo. Putting in foodplots, supplemental feed, mineral sites, setting up game cams to take pics. The walking through the woods slowly, listening and observing everything around me. Its time I find myself disconnecting from the chaotic day to day life I live during the other 5 or 6 days a week. I hunt because I love to watch the sunrise and set. I love the way the woods smell during the fall and spring. I love to watch all the life around me. I love being a part of the big picture. Occassionally I do kill something, but that is part of life. It makes me feel close to the earth and nature and I feel like I have a purpose other than the 9-5 job. I get the opportunity to put back what I have taken. And most of all I love wild animals and hunting gives me the opportunity to be part of their lives. I can remember every animal that I have taken, every detail of the hunt becuase they are so special to me.

I just enjoy being outside. I hunt and fish both and we eat the fish and game I bring home (we have used some fish for fertilizer in the garden). Years ago I was in the "gotta get the biggest and most" mode. Now it is no big deal to come home with an empty bag. My dog is not too keen on that idea though, I am happy just seeing some game, but it is a wasted trip to her if she doesn't get to make a retrieve. I had to stop taking her fishing when there was just the two of us. She is steady to the shot, but it is hell trying to keep her still when I have a fish on, she wants to retrieve the darned thing. She has ended up in the water after a fish more than once.

This past weekend I told the wife I was going across the street to shoot my weird bow. She asked why I was going shooting when I wasn't going to be going hunting anytime soon.

Since I know she "just doesn't understand", I gave her a stern look and told her to get back to work cleaning the house....:)
