A good friend of mine shot an OK bull in Arizona last year. For some reason Hunting Illistrated wanted to do a story on it.
The story starts on page 44.
Personnally I'd have passed this bull up and waited on a bigger one....8*)

His story caught a little flak on "the other site".
Guess I let my guard down over there and the elitest got a few jabbs in. Actually they are probably the jealous ones...:)

They gave him some crap about hunting from a treestand, using an ATV, not hiking three days into the mountains and hunting off a road.
Actually I think they are just jealous that some NR got lucky and took the bull of a life time. I also don't think he was hunting off a "road" that you could drive a truck up. I remember hims saying that he wouldnt dare drive his 4x4 up it. He said it was more like a large fire break.

did i miss this, the elitist attack???

It wasn't as bad as the attacks on the Ohio forum, but they kinda slammed him for the way he got it.
Then again, I'd bet if he shot it with a home made bow then he'd be a hero.
Dany elitest,,,, ruin it for everyone.....:D

What's not in the article is that my friend was almost killed a week after he returned. He totaled his truck and got beat up pretty bad.
He is going through physical therapy right now. He broke his hip and leg.
Get this,,,, He got drawn for an elk hunt in Utah this year. He's trying to get in shape for it....

Im not an eliteist. However I do think less of hunters that use ATV to hunt. Were I draw the line on technical atvantage while hunting. I pray he didnt disturb anybodies elses hunting with his ATV buzzing through theose mountians.
NOTHING LIKE HEARING AN ATV MILES AWAY COMMING UP THE MOUNTIAN AT 5AM :(

Aimrite,
Yelp, I do agree with you, but he was smart enough to do research on the area. The AZ DNR gave him information on how to contact the other TWO hunters that drew for that zone. Both of them where using ATV's and highly advised him to do the same.
The unit he shot the bull in only draws three archery tags a year. All three hunters hunted in the same general area.

i don't own an atv(never had a use for one,i walk)but,i've got no problem with atvs as long as they use them right.i think they're really no more than a means for getting to and from an area.
but it only takes one person to give the rest a bad reputation.

Congrats to your friend TF, I hope he is able to make his Utah hunt. If I am ever lucky enough to get drawn I am using whatever means possible to take an elk. Who knows if I would ever get another chance.

He's definitly put his time in the woods so I really feel he deserves it.
I think he said the taxidermy bill is going to be around $1500.... OUCH!!!!!
