Well the latch on my folding aluminum ladder finally gave out after many years of hard use. I've been eyeballing these Lone Wolf Climbing Sticks (http://www.lonewolfstands.com/shoppingcart/Products/Climbing-Sticks__CS33PC.aspx) anyone use them before? They look to be compact, lightweight, strong and easy to put up.

I like the looks of the lone wolf sticks. I too am interested in a portable ladder system.

Has anyone tried the ameristep rapid rails?

i've not used those, but i bought 16feet of sticks at Dicks Sports Store for $39.00 and i like them better then the $109.00 sticks i bought at Bass Pro last year.had to buy 4foot ext to get high enough to step off of sticks onto tree stand and still be up 16-18 feet.comes in 4 foot sections and even i can put them up,very simple:bouncy:

I bought a set this spring and while so far I've only used them to hang my stands I love them! They are far and away better than any other steps I've used and they are light and easy to put up. Do them once or twice in the daylight and you shouldnt be dissapointed.

I bought a pair when they first came out and didn't like them because the steps were too close to the tree and I had trouble when wearing big boots in cold weather. Maybe they revamped the newer ones to work better than the the older ones, don't know but I sold mine cheap and they went fast.

I started using the LW sticks this year. They are well made, stack tightly, and lite weight. I use 2 or 3 strap on steps, also, to get a little higher.

Most other sticks of this type are heavier and bulkier.

One minus for the LW sticks, is the step is smallish. Some of the 3-4 piece sticks have better steps. Also, on the LW, you have to figure out how you want to turn the steps, before you put them up, so you have the last step in the right position, so you can step unto your stand.

Gander Mountain sells a steel stick made by Gorilla, that sells for around $12-13 apiece. These work well if you are going to put them on a tree and let them there for awhile. Too heavy to carry in and out all the time.

Deerhunt45,

I got a set of the ameristeps last year for Christmas they are
by far the lightest and easiest step system I have ever used.

Used my LW's with the assault stand on saturday.Easier than I thought but I do need a little practice. This setup will give me so many more options this year.

I decided to go with 4 of the LW sticks and picked up a LW Assualt stand to go with them. Used a ratchet strap to cinch the ladder to the stand when backpacking and the whole setup weighs less than the stand it is replacing. I am really surprised by how lightweight/quiet/sturdy this stand is after trying it out in the backyard. There is definitely some top notch engineering put into the LW products.

I have 20 feet of those steel Ameristep sticks. I love them. I get out of my stand and take off the bottom 2 sections.

To do this all you have to do is when you hang the sticks place the bottom T of the steps that is supposed to sit on the ground, Place it a foot off the ground and use a real ratchet strap on the bottoms section support bracket to hold it firm.

I then just hide the 2 sections off the trail about 100 yards from my stand. I lock my stand in and there is now a 9 foot gap to the first step.
