Just curious, I don't have the money to just spend on a decoy. I have never even tried using one before. Would it be crazy to use my Delta River Bottom Buck as a decoy, has any one tried this let me know? Thanks

I have heard of guys doing this, but really never heard the results they got. I think it would work myself, but it doesn't count in the contest if you really get desperate and shoot it:D :D

I think it might work...I had a buck, a nice one by the size of his tracks, come up into my yard and just beat the heck out of my deer target...I would have loved to see the reaction when he hit it and it broke into three pieces...this happened in 2004 in mid november...New Guy
Been there, done that, and it worked. Several years ago I had a buck that would come out the edge of the field and if he seen does he would head straight for them. So not having a decoy at the time, my brother says hey take the deer target and put it out in the field and see if it pulls him in. I put the target about 20 yrds out in the field. Sure enough the buck came out to the edge looked around, saw the deer target and made a bee line right for it, which put him at 15 yrds broadside from me, and as they say, the rest is history.
Used it a week later the same set up and had does come out and look at it kida funny. I think the big worn out hole in the side worried them. :yikes:
Just try to clean the target of smells before you use it.

That's all I use. It has worked, but like I said in the decoy thread, I have never had the right buck at the right time in the right mood, so I won't make any claims on the overall effectiveness to it.

I tried one last year without any takers. A doe saw it from about 50 yards, layed down and watched it for an hour until 2 bucks came along and chased her off. They saw the decoy as well, but just looked. Moved it to another location where a big buck was checking things out. He comes around the hill to the small opening and logging road, takes one look and leaves. I'm not sure he saw it so the next day I move it where he cannot miss it. Comes up the logging road to within 20 yards, takes one look and leaves. This year I'm adding the antlers and a tail.

last year i used my lil 3d target as a decoy just to see if it would work...it started out ...i saw a deer alil ways off and knew it was a buck so grunted once or twice...no responce...so i took my grunt call apart and gave alil snort weeze thru the tube and imediately the buck lifted his head and knoticed the decoy..at this time the buck was about 75 yards away and turned right around and like start stomping towards the 3d target...I couldnt believe it...the buck just kept its eyes on the target and walked right to me...the wind must have been blowing to the left cause the deer came from the right side of the decoy and was making a wide circle around the target to get down wind...well i guess i got lucking cause the circle he was making made him go right by me...he was about 15 yards away and still looking at the 3d target(decoy) when i took my shot...he ran about 40 yards into some thickets and dropped over...it was a nice 7 pointer...biggest buck for me so far and made me happy...knew it was going to be one hell of a story...just wish i woulda got it on camera....here is a pic tho...ohhh and of course it was during rut last year..
