Look into Jefferson lake stat park. Not far from where I grew up can't tell you much about it . I have hunt on land all around it but never in it. Real good deer hunting in Jefferson. Good luck Hunting. What parts are you from?

I am from Cape May NJ. I have some friends that have been taking trips to the Zanesville Area and have really enjoyed your state. I took a trip with IMB Outfitters to Misouri last year and was not happy with it. So I decided to try to organize a trip myself. I am not that good at this site, this is my first time.
Thank You for the Info

Go for late season on state ground...that's when I've had my best luck....the rest of the season gets freakin hammered :bash:

Does it get hammered during bow season?

Just from what I've personally seen...coming from out of state and trying to do it myself....early season, rut with bow, especially gun and muzzleloader, gets hit hard...I think late season with bow when food sources are scarce are the best bet....most other hunters have burned themselves out...and the woods will be empty

I grew up in those parts. Hunted Jefferson, Harrison, and Belmont counties back in the 80's. Don't know what its like now, but there used to be some big deer there. Gun season is always WW3 on public land, but early bow wasnt too bad. I'd knock on some farmers doors. There used to be great hunting on SR 519 and 22. Not sure if there is still public land there though, but worth looking into.

Fernwood is about as rugged as u get in the east. Hard to believe your in Ohio once u see it. Even tho its small it can be a beast. Make sure u do lots of scouting before trying it.

Look into Brush Creek wildlife area, there is a ton of land and I'm sure you won't have that much pressure for bowhunting. The land is just to vast but be careful there is so much area you could get turned around and got lost pretty easy..it's in northern Jefferson County.
