Our food plots are coming up nicely. Mid-week next week they will be officially one month old. We planted Tecomate Chicory and Tecomate Ultra Forage brassicas. We have not been disappointed so far!
Broad look at the plot (chicory in front, brassicas in back)

Southeast Ohio. We need some rain right now, but I think the whole dang state does. We have been getting a real heavy dew most mornings and I think that is helping the stuff grow some.
The bare spot in the main photo right in front is a small area that stayed wet with some water laying there after a rain a few weeks ago, and that area never came up. Other than that spot, it came in really well.

We;re definitely praying for rain over Wednesday and Thursday. I think right now they are saying 30% chance Wednesday, 40% on Thursday. We need it BOTH DAYS!

Do you use any kinds of herbicides on the chicory or is that all natural, and if you do what is it that you use???

No herbicides have been used in the chicory. Before we started this plot (the ground supposedly had not been worked in 15+ years), we sprayed a hefty dose of KillzAll. That killed off all the grass and weeds in the bottom. It was then plowed and disced twice. Surprisingly, 2 small patches of broadleaf weeds popped up as the chicory sprang up, and we just spent about 90 minutes in the plot one night and pulled the weeds. The soil was so loose and soft they pulled like butter.
If we do have to do any herbicide maintenance on the chicory, we were told a wick-style "sprayer" would need to be used. It doesn't actually spray, it just has a saturated cloth of herbicide that stays above the level of the chicory and coats the taller weeds with herbicide. Chicory is supposedly sensitive to sprayings.
As for the brassicas, weeds can't compete with that stuff! :D

Nice food plot! We use the Triple Threat Food Plot (not a brand name, just something we made up) that anybody can buy locally and plant. The seed is broadcast after the site has been sprayed. This helps reduce the extra weed seeds you get when you till the soil.
There are three rows: Turnips, Clover and Oats. The deer are chowing on the oats right now, but once they are gone I will use a cover crop of rye to prepare the plot for rotation next year.
The clover gets chewed to the ground this winter. Then the turnips look like we fenced in deer around them by the time they are finished. Email me for a current pic.
