Okay, so this is the first year that I have maps of all my properties that I will be hunting for stand locations. I've scouted and put stands out. Now the part I don't know...
Does anyone know of a website or something that can tell the typical wind direction I would experience in Knox & Licking Counties of Ohio? I have no clue!

Thanks.

Generally the prevailing winds are going to be out of the NW,W, or SW across Ohio. I wouldn't say the prevailing winds change much by county, so you may want to pay more attention to how the property you hunt affects wind movement.

Check any of the weather websites, accuweather, weather.com etc...Google for them if you need. In my part of the state the winds come out of the North west abot 80 percent of the time. Think about wich direction the storms come fro most of the time in your area.

The weather sites will help you. check them a couple of times a day over an extended period of time and that will tell you the answer.

Good luck!

I use weatherbug with good results...You can log onto it and get up to the minute wind directions.

Your best bet is to focus on your particular stand locations. Prevailing wind sometimes has nothing to do with your particular wind due to topographical changes and "convection". Typically, convection will cause an uphill wind in the morning, and a downhill wind in the afternoon, in hilly terrain. Buy a "windicator", and you will know in an instant how you are faring with the wind.

WeatherBug always screwed by computer up. I use www.weather.com with great results. I take a print out of the hour by hours with me when I go to the stand. I also check it periodically on my phone to see if things have changed. For me in SE Ohio, the prevailing winds at our farm our out of the SW. I can count on this wind 3 out of 5 days I hunt.

This was just discussed in an earlier thread. If you really want to see what's going on from your tree, grab a handful of fuzz from the head of a cattail and bring it to the tree with you. Once your up in the air, set some individual floaters loose and watch their descent pattern to the ground. The wind can do some crazy stuff in hilly terrain. Changes in elevation can amplify this phenomena.

I know this doesn't help you decide which stand to hunt but it can help you determine which direction to focus your attention once you get there.

Southwest primarily unless there has been a cold front. Weatherbug works pretty well. There are numerous on line wind maps, and stick a milk weed pod in your jacket, less mess than cattails.

Take a piece of sewing thread about 2 inches long and a small piece of tape. Place it on the end of your stabilizer so it hangs down. Presto instant stand wind indicator.

I bought a wind checker off of Knight and Hale. Bolts onto my bow and you just pull some fuzz out and let the wind do the rest. Great product.

Thanks guys for the help/advice. My main concern was being able to look at the property maps I have and decide what would be the best stand to sit in at what property location. I know that it all depends on the day and wind direction, which some of you gave me good advice as to how to figure this out quickly the day of the hunt. Thanks again and good luck to all of you. 8 MORE DAYS!!!

I set up ladders for a SW wind, as it is the must prevelant. But keep the climber handy for anything else that comes up.

Also, I use www.weather.com (http://www.weather.com) I tried weatherbug and thought it had good info, but gave my computer some serious issues.

Good luck to all - 8 more days
