Does anyone own any land around Athens Wayne Nat. Forrest? I'm looking to purchase land (10-120) acres butted up against Nat. Forrest. How do you keep your property secure as I know there are alot of vandals and Meth labs.

I would guess that you need to patrole the area frequently. The use of Posted Signs seem to only keep the honest hunters out. Good Luck finding land.

It's a never ending struggle keeping trespassers off of your property. I've had a couple of repeat offenders arrested and even got in a fight with a guy I kicked out 3 times in one week. Each year I have to train a new group of illiterate idiots that apparently think "no hunting" means "go hunting". It would be an even bigger nightmare if I didn't live here. I rarely have any problems from the private land that borders me as my neighbors and I came to terms with who hunts where 20 years ago.

Realtors use it as a selling point to entice buyers by making them think it improves their hunting opportunity.

I own over 200 acres of woods that adjoins 16,000 acres of DNR ground and I have not had any trouble with uninvited guests, but each parcel is different depending on where it is located. The trespassers would have a very long hike to get my farm.

One big advantage that you do have when you adjoin gov. property is the fact that you do not have to worry about subdivisions, trailer parks, development, etc. That is what I like about my place. I know that nothing is going to change in my "neighborhood". The state bought the land with federal monies and it has to stay as a wildlife area.

Some of the best places I have hunted on private ground are now apartment complexes and subdivisions. One public hunting area that I bowhunted was actually turned into a mountain bike trail!

Make sure you get a thorough title search. I had to go back to the 1800's to make sure that I owned the coal. That was a huge plus in owning this farm.

The bad news...I will be selling it this fall. :(

That is unfortunate. I wish I were in a position to be a buyer. I am a long way from that goal.
