You're kidding me Hiller. I have a camper in Loudonville and I'm there every weekend. I was at Fin, Feather, Fur on Friday. I'm thinking about doing a little hunting at Mohican State Forest early on. Actually I'm about 2 miles west of the fairgrounds, I can hear it going on right now :D We have 300 acres of rolling grain fields and woods, plus I can hunt the neighbors 140 acres that borders the amazon jungle that no one is allowed to hunt, basically it is the holding grounds for bucks to get big.. Our farm is kinda slow until the rut really kicks in, but when it does you had better be ready...
I kinda like the Last Minuteman name LOL

I'll go with whatever name you guys come with. Been working tirelessy lately to make sure I can hunt all I want come next weekend. 2 years ago I tagged 14 point on opening day of bow, last year on Oct 20th a 12 point. So I usually score early. This year I'm using a compound seriously for the first time since high school. AR Velocity @58lbs with X-Weave 200 pro's and muzzy 100gr 4 blades. Black gold sites, WB rest, and little goose release. I've improved a ton in past 2 months with new bow, consitantly shooting in the 270's in hunter class at 3-D's and improving weekly. I have seen several bucks over 140" around 3 of my stand sites, so needless to say I'm expecting good things. I hunt in SW Hancock county, where my friend Deerfire killed a 200" buck last year. Talk at you tomorrow!

And the deer gods said "Let them call themselves Team HooDoo" and all was good.:) Just aquired some nice property adjacent to my honeyhole. Nice woodlot with 25 acres of crp grass around it. The funny thing was that the old man that owns it says "sure you can, nobody else hunts it". Everybody I talked to said he didn't give permission, but I told him I was somewhat new to the area and I had my buddies kid with me (YoungWood) and I think that's what did the trick. He also gave me the name of the guy that owns the one last section in the whole block that I don't have yet. I'm gonna try tomorrow. Wish I woulda got it sooner though, I'm basically outta stands:mischeif:

I wish you guys the best and be safe above anything else. I usually hold off on does unless they are by themselves early on. Guess I always felt bad, but from what everyone says, the fawns will just anchor down in that area if something happens to "mama". I just shot about 30 arrows 2 hours ago. I love the slick tricks, absolutely no sight adjustment.

I may try to stick another doe here tonight, but I'll be mainly hunting the edge of a bean field on a treeline right where a cornfield drops in, this area is better for bucks so I may refrain from shooting in does in that area... I will let you all know how it goes tonight... I'm pumped

Way to put us on the board 1st Hiller, you da man. I had a blast today hunting with my 5 year old daughter. Sitting in our buddy stand this AM didn't see a thing. She need to learn to quit moving & talking. This evening set up in a ground blind on the edge of a clover field. Within 1/2 hour had our property chairman at our gun club working our field for fall plantings. Ten minutes later our gas well automatically fires up and we're sitting 25 yards from it. The nice part the sound did cover up my daughter trying to talk to me. After all quieted down I told her we would start seeing deer and if I told "deer" to get down in the blind. Ten minutes later as she is climbing up on my lap I look out the blind window and here's a yearling doe walking by at ten yards. I whisper deer and she dives face first to the ground. As that doe is passing I look behind her as I'm reaching for my bow and there's mama staring at the blind at 25 yards. That was the end of that but it was a day to remember. Daddy's little girl enjoyed it & I'm thinking she's gonna be a future bowhunter. She can't wait to get a deer " so we can make more smokies" as she says it.

This morning I sat in my stand in a funnel area where Deerfire took the 200" buck last year. As I'm walking to my stand at 6am I hear bucks sparring just about 100 yards away! Right after first light a mature doe and fawn come by at 25 yards. I gave them a pass cause I knew what was in the area. At 8am I had a 4 point, small 8 point, a 1 1/2 yr old 11 point (tiny basket rack), a 110" 8 point, and another 4 point walk along the trail a scant 15 yards from my stand. After they feed off, about 20 minutes later a small buck comes running from the way they went, and I heard another deer busting through the corn. About 10 minutes later I hear a few people talking so I climb out and go find them. It was a couple kids that were hunting from a ground blind quite a ways at the other end of the section. They said that they shot a doe but hit her high and they kept jumping her up. I managed to talk them into waiting awhile before helping them take up the blood. It was a good thing cause they had never trailed on before and they kept missing the blood. So to make a long story short, about a half mile later we found their doe still kicking on the ground and they finished her with a knife to the throat. They were real excited to get their first deer and couldn't thank me enough for tracking her. It ended up being the same doe I let walk in the morning (I'm assuming). They said she had a fawn with her. So in all, it was a great morning. I'll hit my honey hole tonight with this wind, should be exciting!

I hunted the kitty cat stand again last night. It was somewhat windy as I walked in fully dressed in my 3-D leafy Scent-Lok. now normally I have an arrow nocked just in case, but we all know what's coming...As I turn around the tree to tie my bow on my lift rope, I notice 2 bedded does staring at me not 10 yards away. I nocked an arrow and just got ready to draw and they slowy stood and jogged off sorta unalarmed to about 75 yards and began feeding. For the next couple hors they would alternate between feeding and bedding until right before dark, all at around 50 yards. So, right at the last 15 minutes of legal light, I happen to look behind me and I see a deer along the creek nworking my way. I noticed a nice set of horns so I got ready. I made 2 low soft grunts and he came on a string to me. I actually drew on this buck with the intention of shooting him. But as I was at full draw, I started really judging his rack. He was a georgous 8 point, 3 1/2 years old, good height and decent mass, just not wide. I decided against it, and lowered down. That deer walked every inch around my stand, actually sniffing my rope and then he wouldn't leave the spot I put out my Tinks Draw 2. It was well after 8pm before he moved off and I climbed out. I actually almost laughed out loud while he kept circling me. My buddy told me I'd regret it if I get skunked the rest of the year (which I won't), but after I let these deer walk, I don't think I'd feel that way if I did. The feeling I get is kinda like catch and release.:)

Sounds good, it's gotta be hard passing something like that up... I'm still to see a nice sized buck yet, but thats how it goes every year on our property... The big boys don't come out until November 1st... it's like they have a calendar or something.... I hate this wait until November, but I know I'll be rewarded if I can keep myself outa my hotspots until then

Hunted same stand tonight. As soon as I sat down about 10 minutes later I had a huge doe and 2 good size fawns come from behind again. They must be totally staying in the corn. They milled around for awhile then crossed the creek to the other cornfield. At about 6:30 a doe and fawn came along the creek and took my 30 yard trail. I came to full draw and waited for her to enter my window...A clean miss! I didn't notice that she angled off the trail a bit and was actually only about 26 yards. I shot about 6" over her back. With the wind blowing they didn't really spook. She jumped ahead about 5 feet and kept milling around and they m,ade their way off slowly to the corn. I'm thinking it's for the best. I'm gonna leave this stand sit for a couple weeks until the pre rut kicks in a bit. With all these does in there I know my 140" 10 point will be near. I have to check ou 2 other stands I haven't touched this year to see what's around, plus I wanna hang one more in the new place I got. Good luck fella's.

Was out last night on foot doing a little slow stalking on the new property we have permission for. Jumped a big doe then another deer that I could only hear. This property is adjacent (600 yards) but connected to the property I kileed my 2 deer on last year. When I was done at around dark, I was walking back and seen a huge buck crossing a wheat field going towards my stand at my other property. Being dark, I couldn't totally see evrything, but I know for sure he was a shooter.
So this morning I decided to hunt that stand. Right after first light I can hear deer running back further in the woods. Then, a small 4 pt comes busting right towards my stand with a big buck running behind him. I couldn't see the bigger one's head but I'm pretty sure it was the big boy from last night. About an hour later I heard them chasing again and a doe and BB fawn come running right by me. I hung around till 10 am before leaving. I absolutely am so pumped about tonights hunt, I can't hardly stand it.

Think deerhunt 45 wants to break us up cause he feels we're going to win this?
Redhunter, sounds like you're into them. Hopefully you scored tonight.

Congrats, Woodland. I know we've got everyone scared. We are theteam to beat! I haven't traveled to OH as much as I had hoped, but my work is slowing down now, and will be hittin it hard. I just got permission for 500 acres of OH woods only 10 minutes from my PA home too. I'll be out there for the first time tonight. I also will be hunting Carrol County for two weeks straight the first of Nov. I like our chances!!

Thats cool, I have never hunted that forest, not even sure as to how many acres they have... but I know there are alot of deer down in those hills...
I think 45 is getting a little nervous, when Red started talking about passing up 3 1/2 year old bucks, thats what told him that this team would be some serious competition...
I'm still holding out for my buck, I think I'm gonna let our farm cool down for a couple of weeks and then hit it hard when rut starts to come in

Trkyslyr,
Thanks and good luck on that new property
Hiller,
The forest has about 5000 acres. I didn't run into anybody all weekend. The park ranger I spoke to last week at the office said gun week is a little scary there though. It is a nice chunk of property with lots of deer. I saw 6 deer Saturday AM before I shot that small doe. That was in a little over an hour on stand.

Well fellas, I am now tagged out in my home state of PA, and ready to start focusing all of my attention to Ohio. I arrowed a decent buck on Sat. evening with the new Alpine. I hunted Sun. morning at the new OH spot, and passed on a decent 10 pt (maybe 120"). Just wasn't quite big enough, and didn't present a great shot opportunity. I have 10 days off the first of Nov. too, so I am not going to settle for a mediocre buck, knowing the potential that I have to harvest another monster in Carroll Co. I should be able to arrow a doe this week, or next weekend. I would like to be the guy that puts us in the lead first...again! Good luck guys, I believe that we have the field's attention in this contest. Let's show em what we can do!

Well fellas, what he forgot to mention is the bigger deer he missed earlier that morning. I think that Santa needs to bring him a range finder.

I must admit, Mr. Longbeard is right, and I cannot deny it since he was on stand with me when it happened. What can I say, I used my 40 yrd pin for a 28 yrd shot. You all know the outcome, clean miss over the back. I thought he was further than he really was. It was a nicer buck than I took that evening, but I redeemed myself just the same!

No big deal slyr. You know you'll redeem yourself.
Now get out there and get some points. :)

Well fellas, Tonight I was hunting from an old stand that we had up for a couple years. When I got to it (first time this year), the wooden seat was missin so I had to fit my big round butt over a square hole...Ouch! after a 1/2 hour I couldn't take it, and decided to move down the trail and post up at the end of a cornfield that they were taking down. I brushed myself in nicely and waited, and every once in awhile would see deer pop out a couple hundred yards out. After awhile I didn't see anything so I got up to walk back out and noticed a large buck and 3 does working down a treeline just down the trail.
After hurrying down there I got settled in and waited. It took a little while but they finally started to get within 50 yards or so and began top feed in the wheat in fron of me. The does kept coming closer but the buck wouldn't. Eventually he turned around and headed the other way across the field. Disappointed, I decided to take one of the does if they came in a little closer. As luck would have it, the larges doe finally came in broadside, but I forgot my rangefinder in truck, and had to guess her at 35 yards. I was on my knees at the shot, and guessed the yardage good, but I think I hit her a little far back. It made a lod "smack" when it hit her, and she "humped" up and ran about 30 yards and stopped, then she took off again slowly and crossed the trail and went into a small woodlot that the trail goes into. I waited awhile and went out to look for the arrow, but I must have somehow accidently bumped to on button on my flashlight and the batteries were dead:irked:
So I walked up towards wher she ran in and I"m positive I heard what sounded like her laying there kicking on the ground not too far away. I could also hear other deer running around, so I decided to just get out and wait till morning to try and recover her. God, so many things went wrong tonight right from the get-go, I hope what I heard was her dying. The one good thing was the big boy went back towards the thicket where I have my #1 stand, so I'll not scare him in the morning. I'll update everyone tomorrow. Sorry about the novel guys.

Well, I found my arrow this morning, was definately a gut shot. I tracked her through the small woodlot and into an open field. I followed her tracks halfway across the field and it was apparent that she was headed to a rather large tract of private land that I can't access. I know she's dead, so I'm gonna show the owner my arrow tonight and see if he'll let me enter. I'm almost sure he won't, but they're running corn out there so i might as well ask. I'm totally sick about this, with this heat, I hope she's still good if I get her. Even if she isn't I'll still use my tag.

Well chalk another one up for HOODOO!!! I killed a nice 7 pointer this morning (main frame 6) that I woulda swore up and down was an 8 and would have met my 125 goal... however after some ground shrinkage and closer investigation I saw that he was a 6 pointer with another point off of his main beam... I'm sure had he had the eight point rack I thought he did that he would have gone 125, but I am happy as can be with this one... I'll get pics up shortly!

Good job Hiller. Hopefully I can tag a nice buck also in the next week. I believe I'm heading down to Loudonville this weekend to close up the camper. If so I'm heading to the State Forest. I know there are some bigguns in there. Hopefully some pictures will follow shortly.

Decided to move a stand on Sunday to get a little closer to the action. Sat there for first time tonight and put the HooDoo on a nice doe at a whopping 8 yards. It actually knocked her down on impact and she managed to get back up and run another 35 yards before piling up. I have a picture of her but it won't let me upload it till I delete some of my other ones and I can't for the life of me figure out how. So as soon as I upload it, mark down another 5 points for team HooDoo!

Good job Redhunter. If you want you could e-mail me the picture and I'll post it for you. Let me know if you have more trouble loading it and I'll PM you my e-mail address. Also make sure the tag is visible in the picture. That has been an issue already as it is one of the rules. Way to add some more points for HOODOO.

Scored on a BB today. Was stand hunting all morning. Seen 2 does cross the cornfield about 200 yards down from my stand at 7:50am. From there on I seen nothing. at 9am I decide to climb down and leave. Well, I decided to walk to the other corner before I left just to peek around and see what was happening. To my surprise the 2 yearlings were still feeding out in the corn. I started calling with my doe bleat and they began trotting to me. I jumped back in the edge and watched them come. When the lead deer was 30 yards I drew and waited. It stopped so I bleated again, (hands free call) and it came again broadside at 10 yards and I put an easy heart shot on it. I feel bad cause I never even looked at the head, I was just so into the moment. I've actually passed up 6 different BB's this year until now. Oh well, more chops for the freezer. I actually took a picture of it and my other doe I got Wednesday to submit for the contest since the first pic of the doe sucked so bad.

I shot a really big doe on Saturday. After I took it to the processor yesterday I realized I never got a picture of it. I have full plans of still getting a buck this year as tag soup isn't very tasty. A picture of that big doe would have been a nice fall back. Guess I'll have to get another doe for fall back if a buck doesn't show up soon. I just don't want to shoot a young buck for the sake of a contest. I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say. I live in an urban deer zone so I can take does all year. I'm sure I'll be good for at least 5more points.

I shot a small 9 point on saturday with my compound. I'll get pics up tonight or tomorrow. I was walking to my stand at around 2:15 sat afternoon when I heard gunshots across the field at another woods. I stopped and watched for a few minutes when I finally seen a deer making it's way towards my direction. I seen it looked like a high racked deer. I snuck back about 20 yards as it entered to thicket on the other side. When i seen he was coming my way I drew back and waited. He first stopped at 60 yards and stared around, then he ran right towards me. I was lucky enough to be standing on top of a ridge and he was below me. He slowed again and walked broadside to me at around 33 yards. When he stopped I released and nicked a small limb that made my arrow hit a little further back than intended. I got lucky and hit liver and he ran about 100 yards and layed down. I tried to sneak up on him a couple times and he'd run a little. I'd normally leave them lay, but I didn't know if the orange army was coming after him or not. Finally I got with 30 yards and finished him with a shot to the vitals. He was alot smaller than alot of the bucks I passed up this year. Afterwords I was a little disappointed in myself for my impatience, but I'm really thrilled with my first buck with a compound. He is actually a mainframed 7pt with small double brows and a sticker off the right base. I'll get to work on the pics later. We've got a ton of deer to butcher this week.

Congrats on your harvests guys!
I want to give props and commend you for taking the "contest" in the proper spirit. That is the whole point of the "fun contest"; comradarie, sharing your hunts, stories, pics and developing new friendships, that is and should be what it's all about. Mission accomplished on this team!
Thanks and best of luck the rest of the season :D

Congrats redhunter on the 9 point. I shot a doe during gun week but buck sightings have been limited for me. I know there is a nice 10 and eleven point running the property I hunt. Hopefully I can hookup with one of those guys during these latter portions of bow season. I will be fighting for hunting time now as I have officially started up a new business selling & renting portable diesel air compressor and construction air tools. I got my 1st truckload of compressors on Friday Nov. 30th, my birthday. Now I have to find homes for these machines. I have not given up on tagging a good buck for this year it's just taking a little longer than expected.
TRKYSLYR, how have you been doing we haven't heard from you in a while.
Way to put us up some good points Hiller & Redhunter.

Thanks buddy! The deer are hitting the corn and winter wheat hard right now in my neck of the woods. Today I seen a herd of 8 with one nice buck feeding at around noon about 50 yards from one of my stands. I'll probably have my Dad come hunt it. I was surprised to see them there cause all the local coyote crews have been running through everything with this fresh snow. I don't think them guys can read signs either.:irked:
