Well my plots have been in the ground for a month, heres some pics of where they are at growth wise. I was starting to worry, it had been so hot and dry, my brassicas were starting to curl up and I was afraid they wouldn't make it. After the last weeks rain and cooler temps they are taking off. I can see where the deer are starting to work on them some, but with the acorn crop I've got this year they aren't getting hit too bad. I planted Plotspike oats this year instead of Buck Forage Oats, thus far I'm not at all impressed. It's up about 6 inches and I can't see where the deer are hitting it at all. My favorite plot mix Biologic Full Draw is a little slow starting this year, but is starting to take off now.

I've got a total of seven plots out, my two biggest ones, 1/4 acre each, are in clover/chicory mixes, they have been in the ground for two and four years each. The pics you're seeing are on my 5 other plots. They are all at or slightly less than 1/10 of an acre. They are all more long and narrow plots. I have 48 acres total, all wooded with most of the timber being 10-16 diameter. Just north of my proerty is a 2 1/2 acre corn field and about a 1/4 mile northeast is a 25 acre bean field. My proerty is more of a sanctuary area, I have made three areas about five acres each which are extremely thick bedding areas. My plots are located close to these areas. The deer can step out and grab a bite to eat and disappear back into the brush without any effort, plus morning and evening the plots should be their first stopping points......or so I hope:idea:
I know what your talking about 1023, I really thought I was going to lose mine. Even so they aren't as nice as they were last year.

Bawana, Do you have mature bucks using your property(bedding)? Just curious, a good friend purchased 50 acres last winter and we are planning to cut some timber this winter for sanctuary purposes. He also has some agriculture surrounding his land.

Yes I have some using it, but it is more of a "doe" haven. Seems early season (til about Oct 25th) I see ten does for every buck. After that it's closer to a 1to 1 sighting mix. I do have some trail cam pics of nice bucks from earlier in the year. To be honest with you I completely stay out of those three bedding areas that I made, only going through them in Feb or March and even then it's rare. When I made those bedding areas, I cut a lot of the bigger wood for firewood, I hinge cut the smaller trees to make a real mess out of everything, between the trees growing back, grapevines, and briars and brambles I've got a real mess, or as I like to call it "The Jungle".:yikes: The guy who got me started on this said whenever I thought I had cut enough, I should cut for another hour. When I look at it and say Oh No!!, then I've probably cut just about enough.
