Alright, lets get it started. I had rotator cuff surgery on August 7th,so I haven't had a chance to shoot the bow. I have a crossbow to fall back on if need be. I shoot a Mathews Outback, carbon express arrows tipped with 100 grain Muzzys. I'm going to try the bow in a week and see how it feels. I really hope I can pull it off.

How much time you guys get to spend in the woods? I usually take two weeks off around the rut. I may try to take a few days off for early season. I usually take the week gun season off as well but I think I'm going to skip that this year and just bow hunt. That will give me 3 weeks to use for bow season.

What type of bow are you shooting? I like my Mathews but there is a lot of good bows on the market.

OK,it must be asked, who is the "old man" of the group? I say we designate them the honorary team leader. I'm soon to be 36.

How to you guys want to be updated once the season starts? By PM or in this thread?

Looking forward to the season and the team aspect of this. It definately should make this season a fun one.

Good luck with the practice and the scouting,John

zebra strings
Draw 28in @ 70lb
Trophy Ridge Site
Whisker Biscuit
Custom Stabilizer
Gold Tip 5575's with 4" vanes
Rage 100 grain broadheads.

I most hunt the family farm which consists of 200 acres of woods and fields. We've planted roughly 5 acres of corn this year hoping to draw a few more in. My backup spot is another 400 acres of farm land which I hunt with my cousin. No big buck sightings yet, but with a new game cam out I'm hoping to see a few soon. Hope I get another chance at the one I drew back on and was winded by last year. He was bigger than the two my brother and I did manage to take.

These 2 have been keeping a pretty Good pattern so far and this one pretty close to last year as far as movement.I believe this year either one I going to try to take.If I can do it ,Then I 'm going to Try my public spot.I'm going down to the public area this weekend to try to come up with a game plan.Which will probably be where I have set up for a couple of years now.I have been lucky enough to bag 2 decent 10 pts in the same area in 3 years.Missed a nice 8pt gun season the year in between.Where I'm hunting setting up on a travel route cutting across a Swamp has been pretty good.

My background:
Fred Bear Element '06
27.5 draw@60lbs
Whisker Biscut
Tru-glow
Axis 400 mossy oak / 4" duravanes
Rage 2 blade 100g
I have a horton legend for back up. I just started shooting a compound again last year due to shoulder and back issues. I spend most of my time on aprrox.400 acres in tusc. county but have several other good areas.
Time in the woods varys every year but 30 days of bow hunting is realistic and all of gun & muzzeloader. Most who know me will tell you they rarely see me from late oct. till sometime in dec. lol. I'll also say that I haven't killed a good buck since 1999 and am tired of eating tag soup. I've blown a couple of chances but holding out for mr. big has really cost me.
I figure I'm due for a little luck this season. I plan on filling a doe tag early with the bow this year. Is it time to hunt yet? I do believe at 41 yrs young I'm not "the old guy" on this team? Anyways happy hunting and keep us informed:D Later Greg

Hey John,
I have not shot them .Only read a little on them.I just ordered some Slick tricks yesterday.I have read some good things on them so when my hunting Buddy asked which head I thought was good I told him to read up on them,he stopped by shot some he picked up and they flew like everyone said,Just like your field points.Along with that and some of the Blood trails they leave behind,I have to try them.I like muzzy but I'll try some to see.

Wally, not hijacking your thread, but I have been using Slick Tricks for several years now, and I will attest to the fact that all the hype is true. I have several friends that are now using them also, and they all say the same thing. We all know it is about shot placement, but they sure add some confidence to your shooting. I have yet to have a deer go more than 60 yards, and have actually been able to see the bloodtrail from the treestand on several. There is absolutely no reason to shoot a mechanical as long as Slick Tricks are available.

09-13-2007, 10:16 PM
Damn Wally, that is a sweet set up you got there! I need to come to your house to shoot. We need to find out if we get bonus points for a yote. I gave one a muzzy haircut a couple of years ago. My buddy that I hunt with killed one last year with his bow. He had 16 different pics of yotes from the camera he just pulled. I'm sure some were repeat offenders but that still is alot of activity. One pic had three yotes in it.

Great pics,thanks for sharing.

That is a big yote. We should get a 1/2 bonus point for a turkey killed with a bow. That could be the difference maker.

Well for some small talk,What camo do you guy's like.I'm starting off with Real Tree Hardwoods Green and Gray,Then as the season goes on and the leaves start to fall I'll switch over to Predator Fall Grey,That brown trucked stopped by today and gave me my last part of my setup a Hat.It also dropped off my Slick Tricks,Going to let some fly Tonite.

johnc21
09-14-2007, 02:20 PM
Wally,

I have a little of everything camo wise. I bought a natural gear rainsuit last year that is pretty nice. Clearance deal from cabelas. I like the Natural gear camo,I didn't think I would. When it's raining, it's more important to be dry than trying to make a fashion statment. The only problem is I went on a diet and lost so much weight its go to be really big. I really like the Predator camo. I need some of that. Do you use any of the scentlok or scentblocker stuff? I use it,not sure that it works but it makes me feel better. I'm pretty anal on the scent control. I never where any of my stuff inside. Use any deer lure? I like do use Jackies deer lure once I start seeing some rut activity. I've had bucks lip curling to that stuff.
I didn't find many acorns last night. I was hoping for more. I have a couple more places to look before I decide on opening morning spot. I may set up on a food plot and take a doe. I shot one last year on opening day at first light. I had deer in the foodplot as I was climbing into my stand. I managed to get into without spooking them. She was big one too. I did draw the bow back last night, still having some pain from my surgery. I'm going to give a couple more days before I start shooting. I like my shots inside 25 yards so I shouldn't have any problems with that. The last good buck I shot(my avatar and in the 2004 gallery) stop broadside at 30 yards. That's on the edge of my comfort zone. What did your buck from last year score? He looked like a dandy. I wounded a buck last year and couldn't find him. Looked for 4 days, what a sick feeling that is. Let me know about the slick tricks.

John

wallydog1

That Natural Gear looks pretty good.I have not used any scent in many years.I will probibly give it a shot this year and see if i get any results.this buck at the inlaws i might have to pull out all the stops on that one. There property which is pretty small, has been hardly pressured.the property around it gets hunted but the guy's are doing pretty good at not shooting the small bucks.I have a week mid oct to try to pull it off.I have Quite abit of scentlok stuff and not just because of the carbon which really might not work at all. However i like alot of the style clothing they offer.I have some other stuff that is silver lined and some micobiobial detergant stuff.Hey it can't hurt I figure.I'm not sure what My buck scored last year,I'm thinking not much over 120.I have never scored any of my deer. All my whitetail bucks i have been taken are on public areas that get hit real hard.any buck around the size I have taken are pretty much a standard for what I will shoot.I'm lucky to see them that big on public let alone get a good shot.Hey just start out real slow shooting and if you have to use a crossbow so what.so far the contest has been real good,i don't think i have laughed this much since joining this site.I don't dare eat or drink before I check out the next post.I'll be cleaning my screen to often.looks like were the sleeper team, which I always like to be in that position.I feel pretty good about our Team.

I was very thankful when he walked by.I supposed to be heading down to scout around tomorrow if my buddy makes it.Pretty much know whats happening at my inlaws property.I hate to over hunt it right off the bat.I figured I would slip in a couple of times before mid Oct,then hunt for a whole week.then bounce back and forth the first week of nov.Don't really see the nicer bucks on the public area until late oct/early nov.If the Does are using the same travel areas, the bucks will be checking them during primetime.

Any of you guy's use a hydration pack ,I just grabbed a small back pack and it came with one.Not sure if I'm going to use it.I usually just pack in water and Tea bottles in to the stand.here's a left side view from one of my stands.this would be my perfered shot angle I don't have to stand up to take this shot.I have a small blind skirt that hides movement pretty good.Pretty thick right now.Gives me good cover and some pretty good shooting lanes.

I usually pack in bottles of water too. Looks like a nice stand location Wally. can't say I have much of an opinion of the Rage broadheads yet. I haven't shot anything with them yet, but hope to have some performance pictures in a couple weeks when the season starts. As far as camo, it's a mix and match with the different varieties. I'll probably mostly be using Hardwoods HD and Hardwoods HD Green. Good luck guys.

Well finally got to try slick Tricks.I'm pretty happy with the results as far as field point accuracy.shot first 2 arrows field point (Green target) and the next 2 arrows (white target) Slick tricks at 20yards.Sliced a piece vane Off one.For my shakey butt I'm happy with them.

Wally,

Looks like the slick tricks are going to work. That's pretty impressive right out of the box. Looks like you may only have to make one small adjustment. My muzzys fly pretty close to my field points, but I had to adjust more than that.
I've never messed with any hydration packs. I just pack a water bottle with a buddy-lock holder that attaches to my fanny pack or my back pack. It works fine for me, I like to keep it simple. Treestand looks great,I'm going to get some up this week. We normally hang 30 stands through out the season. That's alot of work. It's even more work getting them all down. I like having lots of options. I already know the area that I'm going to concentrate for early season so if I get 3 or 4 stands up I should be in good shape. I just hope the buck I'm after stays on the same pattern he's on now. He is really predictable right now.

John

wallydog1
09-17-2007, 09:22 AM
hey john,
your right about making a slight adjustment.I was having a hard time yesterday with my form.be working on that alittle Tonite before tinkering. My muzzies flew good and always had to make an adjustment but not really a big deal. I'm really looking for better blood trails.Altho the last few deer that were hit with the 3 blade muzzies went down within 40 yards,Blood trail wasn't that good. I'll give these a shot and see what happens.Man 30 stands is alot of work.I only put up about 6 for the season.4 of those ladder stands and 2 stix with lockon's,and summit cobra xls to pack in.Had a buck in the backyard last nite dogging the Does before dark. This cooler weather has The bucks moving around a little earlier in the yard.gonna be great to get out and hang in a tree in acouple of weeks.I figured I would try to post something everyday or so just to keep things going on.

johnc21
09-17-2007, 09:39 AM
Yeah 30 stands is too much work for just two guys. We do use a few ladders in areas that have good trees for them. I did see that they predicted the rut was going to be earlier this year. If I recall correctly,it was Oct 31 to Nov. 14th. I did see two nice bucks together this morning coming to work. I tried to get a pic with my cell phone but I wasn't quick enough. I'm taking the rifle tonight to a beanfield and going to try to shoot some does for a farmer. He has some kill permits he's trying to use up. I went Saturday evening and all I saw was bucks. I don't think we will have any problem keeping this going, lots to be done before season starts.

Wally,

I didn't get to go, my mom is back in the hospital. I may try again this weekend. I did manage to shoot my bow. I think the shoulder is going to hold up OK. I actually shot pretty well, I really surprised myself. I'm going to try to sling a few arrows everyday to knock off the rust. I just need to be careful not to over do it. The next test for my shoulder is hanging stands. That may be a little more of a challenge. I use a seat-of-the-pants harness that I use like a linemans belt. It frees up both hands. I hope to get at least two stands up by weeks end. I did find a few oaks producing some large amounts of acorns. I can't wait to hunt over them.

I guess this questions for the group. What county or counties do you intend to hunt. I pretty much stay in Athens County. I have an invite to Washington County for gun season. I'm not really planning to gun hunt at this point. I hope I don't need to;) .

Walleye fishing with Wally. Sounds like a tv show! I've never fished for them. I would definately be up for something like that. I did go down to Virginia beach this year to fish. I didn't catch anything real big but had a great time. The strpers season is getting ready to start down there. I would to go back and do that again. I haven't been to Cleveland for a long time. I did go to Cincy twice this year to see the Reds. I got a foul ball from Griffey during batting practice. That was pretty cool.

One week from today! Let the countdown begin. I have alot to do to get ready. I've been trying to come up with a checklist to make sure I don't forget anything. I need to wash up the hunting clothes a get them hung up outside for a couple days. I think we make all this more complicated than it needs to be. I guess as long as you have your bow, arrows, release and a safety belt that is all you need. I look like inepector gadget in a tree top!

Fishing Erie for Walleye is really great this year and will be for some years to come. here's what has been the norm for this year,

I've been walleye fishing on Erie roughly a half dozen times. It's definately a blast. Was up there a month ago for my cousin's bachelor party and the six of us managed 26 walleye and a half dozen yellow perch. Was up there yesterday for more perch and even though it was a slow day six of us still managed 180 perch. Counting down the days now till next weekend. If you guys are interested in chasing striper or hybrid striper in the Ohio river, let me know. I've got an extra surf rod and they should be starting the fall bite now.

so I used it for my boat name and forum name.Have you Ice fished erie.Man It's another world out there when we get ice. Some of the best fishing to be had.we can try that this winter if you guy's like.

Shiners didn't seem to be a problem. Had more than we needed. Never have ice fished before, mainly because we don't normally have ice worth fishing down this way. Let me know if you want to chase those stripers this fall or next Spring. They usually start biting around late March into April. The big ones usually show up in June.

Made some sets of safety lines for my practice stands at home today.Have to get some camo rope for my stands where I have my hunting stands.1 line is a 25ft line to Above the stand From the base. The other is the line from the tree to the safety harness.Seen this setup for awhile now and know it a good idea to stay connected at all times while climbing and getting in the stand.I like to have the one above the stand already attached and the extra one for the harness left with the stand.that way The one I have for my climber is always with me.

The good............the bad...................the ugly

The good- I got some stands up and found the mother load of acorns

The bad- Left work early today to do some late foodplots and to do some scouting. Looked out in the middle of a beaver pond and I see a dead dear in the middle. Which leads into the ugly

The ugly- I get the binos and try to make out what this deer in the pond is. I can't tell but I notice the head is at a funny angle. I can't resist, I strip down to my boxers and I go in. I get to the deer and all I see is big horns. I drag it to the edge of the pond so we can examine it. It is a typical 13 point with two additional stickers. We have one picture of this deer from late August. He was not as big as we thought but he still will go 160+. I would guess that he had been in the water for atleast 3 weeks. The fish were working him over pretty good. He was to badly decomposed to tell if he had been shot. The cause of death is a mystery. It is either EHD or poachers. I'm betting on poachers. I walked all around the pound and the surrounding area looking for other deer. I probally walked 35 acres. I found absolutely nothing! My guess is that if it were EHD there would more than one deer in the area. We found the deer close to the property line, which is bordered by a huge field that has some less than desirable neighbors. We found a buck that had been skull capped out there last year. I found out who shot that one and called the game warden. The game warden paid him a visit but no citations were issued. This really puts a bad taste in your mouth. We had high hopes for this season knowing that this buck was around. He was the biggest buck we have ever got a pic of on the farm. Nothing left to do but move on I guess, very discouraging to say the least. We did take the head and skinned it out(stinky). Still waiting on a call from the GW. I will keep you posted.

Man I wish we would get a good cold snap early. This EHD stuff seems like it is taking a toll around southern ohio pretty good.there still is a very good chance there are some more big boys present.my inlaws haven't seen the deer coming in the last week in jefferson like they were.Seem to be hitting the corn at nite.I told them it is probibly change in food souce with acorns dropping.A very large oak in my yard just started to lose all it had with in the last 2 days,Maybe because it's so dry here ?

I believe Gonewild is still with us.I traded some PM's earlier.I'll hunt public on the opener and hit private on sunday.I have a buddie that will hunt with me on sat.I have a spot on public I have to check out.I had my eye on it for a while now.I'm going to hunt for a week mid oct.If I get a shot in the morning on a doe I'll take it.Never tagged one on the first day of bow season.

johnc21
09-25-2007, 08:10 PM
I shot a doe the first morning last year. That was the first time I had done it. It all depends on what the deer activity is in the oaks. If I'm seeing lots of deer I may hold off. If I have a mature doe come by herself she may be in trouble. I'm sure everybody will be giving updates. It should be exciting. Make sure you remember to pack your camera.

On a side note, you ever play around with a recurve or longbow? I'm starting to get the itch:) .

Oxmos,
thats a cool pic.The yote;s in my back yard steal things all the time.I lost a wheel and bracket of my riding mower one evening.I keep cutting the grass and put the mower away for the nite.the next day i went out to get it and it was gone. The wife saaid a yote was running around the back when she wokeup,I started to check the deer trails and found it in around 40 yards on a trail in the woods. It had teeth marks in it.They also pulled a 100ft garden hose into the yard next door and chewed it in half.

John,
the journal is a good Idea.i used to do that fishing and it was helpful to look back.Hard to remember all the details.

Sorry to hear that Oxmos really sucks for the opener. I had a good morning on Sat. saw 25 total altough 8-10 were probably double sightings. The couple mature doe just wouldn't give me a good shot. I did have a 20yd shot at an 8pt(2 1/2 yr) but let him walk :tsk: for now. :D I think i'll head out for the afternoon and see what happens.

johnc21
10-01-2007, 01:52 PM
Not much for me to report either guys. I seen a ton of deer and passed some does. They are really hitting the acorns hard. I didn't get to hunt the stand that has all the buck activity. The wind didn't cooperate Sat. evening. I won't hunt it until the wind is right. If you have acorns hunt them now, they won't last much longer. I did see some small bucks that are showing some agression already. I had a six pointer try to put the smackdown on a button buck. It's only going to get better from here. I'm going to put out a ground blind this week and take my kids with me one evening. That should be worth some bonus points;) . I have a spot picked out that will be perfect for a ground blind. Hopefully we will have points by the end of the week.

I'll second the acorn thing. At times I could hear them crunching acorns before I could see them. I'm hunting a 20+ acre oak flat. The first doe I saw sat. morning came running in with her little one. A minute later 2 bucks showed up and she wasn't happy, stomped her foot several times and took off. 2 hours later the 2 bucks show up again and start to spar. I need to take the vidoe cam with me. Sunday afternoon was a little slower with only a few doe and no shots. Speaking of kids, My 13yr. old(well not til thurs.) went with me yesterday as he is my main partner in the woods. He had better activity in his area(only 200 yds from me) but nothing he was ready to shoot. The best part was he carried his summit viper, bow and gear 30 mins. in and 30mins. out and never got tired or complained. Hopefully, we will get 1-2 afternoon hunts in this week.

We are on the board fellas! I took a nice doe this morning. She came by at 20.5 yards and stopped slightly quatering away. Big mistake, I had myself a muzzy moment. She did a mule kick and ran about 60 yards. It so stinkin hot I didn't let her lay for very long. I also hunted last night and seen a bunch of deer. I passed on a really good 9 pointer. I had him broadside at 25 yards. This buck has been running with the big 10 pointer that I'm after. Only problem is the 10 was a no show. I may regret passing that deer, time will tell.

Thanks Guys- if I don't shoot another deer this season thats fine by me. The look on his face says it all. He was so excited! He was trying to bust out of the ground blind before the deer fell over. She only made it 30 yards. I don't normally shoot fawns but I had to make an exception to the rule. My daughter is giving me grief now. She wants her turn asap. I'm going to let it cool down and take her to the same blind. I need to lay off the does and get serious about buck hunting. The big ten has went into hiding it seems. We checked the cameras and we didn't get any new pics of him. We did get a pic of a deer we call the "tank". This deer is and old deer that has been around forever(we think he is 7 1/2). He is sporting 10 points and has the biggest body that I have ever seen. He won't score that well, probably 130 ish but I will take him if I get a chance. I'm guessing he will dress around 240 pounds, a real beast of a deer. I'm hoping with the cooler weather coming the deer will start moving more. Good luck and get out there and score us some points! This contest is wide open and I'm confident we can win it with a little luck.

I had a pretty good evening in the stand. I seen 6 different bucks. I seen one decent 8 pointer and the rest were little bucks. I had a little fun with the little guys with the grunt tube. They were definately interested. It won't be long before the action starts to pick up.

Sounds like you have had a pretty good week Wally. You should take the bow to Ravanna so we get the points:biggrin: If you get a crack at a big one put him down. The contest is not that important. Let us know what you get in to at the Ravanna. A buddy that I hunt with killed a big one up there a long time ago.

I decided to hunt yesterday after work. It was a little warm but decided to give it a try. I was in the stand by 4:00pm and seen my first deer at 4:15.
I tried some light rattling and busted out the grunt call. I had a mature doe slip in on my at 40 yards and stood in the same spot for a 1/2 hour. She just stood in the same spot looking in all directions. Then all of the sudden the woods come alive behind me. I could here deer running and that sound we love this time of year, a grunt. This buck must have grunted 20 times. I grunted back and I thought he was coming. It was right before dark and I couldn't find him in the thicket he was in. I could hear him walking but never did get a look. I'm not sure he was a shooter but it sure was exciting. It's a good sign and my vacation will start very soon!

Good Luck,John

I'll be thinking about you guy's,hope you get some action on a Big boy.One of us is going to put a nice one Down Soon.

I'm trying Wally! I think somebody needs to let the deer know that it is their breeding season, cause it aint happening on the farm I hunt. I'm still seeing deer, but almost zero rut activity. I had two mature does(one was a cadilac, huge) come by this morning and hung around for awhile. I expected to atleast see some young bucks bumping them, but nothing came by. I then had three deer run across the hillside behind me. I didn't think it looked like a buck chase, more of "I see you" run. Well five minutes pass and I look back across the hill and see two Jack Russell terriers cold trailing the deer that ran by. I only seen 1 spike buck all morning. So on the way out of the woods we stop and pick up a near by trail camera. Get back to deer camp and check the picks and guess what we have pics of, If you guessed Jack Russell terriers you are correct. This is the same area that we got pics of the Buck I'm after. Do you think we can get any points for a Jack Russell? If either one of those little SOB's come by my stand I'm going to run a muzzy thru them. And if that aint enough to make your blood boil, the guy that has the gas and oil lease on the farm decides he is going to drill a new well, this week. I have a stand near by that I really wanted to hunt this week. I guess that one will have to wait. But guess what, I'm still having a great time! I'm going to keep pressing like I always do. If I put in my time I will get a shot at one. Sorry for the long winded post,I just had to vent a little. I feel much better now!

Good luck,John

Sounds like we should be tapped out on the scoreboard. I'm still scratchin' my head from this morning. Totally missed a 20yrd chip shot on a respectable 8. Never found my arrow or a drop of blood anywhere. Then my boy shows up and tells me I should have been in my other tree cause he seen a brute heading right for it.:yikes: Factor in my non -recovery from tues. morning and the big 8 on thur. I couldn't shoot cause my bow was still on the ground and I think its safe to say I've pretty much had my azz whooopped in the woods this week. Back at it in the morning:D

I'm planning on hunting all weekend at the same spot I screwed up on the 10 pointer. I think the hunting should be good all the way up to gun season. I have had some luck in the past hunting the week before gun season. On a side note, If you hunt this weekend you are required to wear orange. Just want to make sure everybody is safe out there.

Well I doesn't look like it's going to happen for me this year. The best way for me to sum my season to date is "year of the dog". It doesn't matter which farm I hunt, dogs just seem to show up. I just hope they show up during gun season:biggrin: . I had dogs ruin my hunt on Saturday. They stuck around for three hours! I did see a decent 10 pointer, but he stayed on the opposite bank. The only deer that I seen on Sunday was a 6 pointer. I would like to add some points but I just couldn't shoot a small buck. I guess my standards are too high. I'm ready to put the sticks away and bust out the encore. It has been really frustrating season for me. I may go out thanksgiving day if I can get away with it. I'm only taking the first day off for gun season. If that doesn't pan out I may take all of muzzleloader season off. Is it legal to take your bow and your gun during gun season? If it's legal I may do that.

First of all, good luck, I hope you get your deer. I haven't had any problem with dogs this year but I have had trouble in the past. It really puts a damper on your hunt.

I think that is what I will do oxmos. I will keep an eye on the scoreboard! I did take another doe with the encore yesterday. Probably the biggest doe I have ever taken. If this was a big doe contest I would be in the running! It was a pretty long shot. I run them out of a bottom and they ran up the opposite bank and stopped to check me out. I dumped her from about 110 yards with a 250 grain shockwave. It bust thru both front shoulders. She went straight down. I had a pretty tough time getting her out by myself. I had to cross a pretty deep creek and thru a swamp. I could have really used some help. You guys had any luck this week? I'm going back out tomorrow. I think it is time to find a buck!

Going to do a little bowhunting this Saturday. I have never bowhunted after gun season. We didn't gun hunt the farm so the deer should be pretty much undisturbed. I think the focus will be on feeding patterns for the evening and try to catch them going into bedding areas in the morning. If it gets too slow,I'm going to load up the beagles and go after some bunnies. I will keep you posted.

Good luck john,I have not bowhunted after gun season.if I can not connect on a Doe on my last tag this month with the Gun and Muzzle loader season I might try some late season bow hunting to see what happens.Until the lake turns to ice,Im not going to sit in the house.

Anybody have any plans this weekend. I'm not sure if I'm going to go. I may wait and head back out with the bow. This late season bow hunting is new to me. I have alot to learn. Maybe I should start me a big baitpile. I've never done that, I'm not really into that type of hunting. It would be nice to get a little more snow. That makes scouting alot easier.

Good luck if you go,John

went out yesterday and seen 11 deer,1 was a really nice Buck.had 4 does come into where i was set up during a burst of snow flurrie's and could not get a good shot off.Rt77 was very bad driving home. pickups spun out all over the place I counted 6 that i saw.1 guy passed me and a little ahead of me he spun out and almost hit him trying to slow down.Seen another car with a deer stuck under it off to the side of the road.took almost 4 hours to get home,Nomally a little over 2 hours. With the weather I'm waiting for muzzle load to try again.

I didn't get to go. My wife had to work so I got to hang out with the kids. I really would have liked to get out on Saturday. I really like to hunt in the snow. My father in law shot a 10 point with his new pro hunter. I'm going to take all of the mz season off. Hopefully we get a little snow.

You never know about erie ice,Last year started about the same with lake temps higher then normal, then we got a good cold snap.I say we will see some ice by early to mid feb.fishing is better then into feb into early march.I keep my eye on the conditions daily.Gonna try for the last Doe tag the last couple weeks it looks like with no ice.I don't go out on Erie unless everything looks real good, So I would not take anyone out if it's not right.would be nice too get some guy's together from the site for a fishing day out there ;)

Thats OK Cream, I don't own that one! If you look in the box to the right there is another dog in the back. I have 4 beagles but only took two. We had a total of 6 dogs,so I decided to only take the two males.

6 dogs? Yikes! I think we have plenty of whiffer-power with two! :yikes:

We usually just have one dog when we bowhunt the bunnies. He is lightning fast, though.
