Howdy all!
Still trying to think of a team name.
I like Legend Killers. Only thing i have thought of so far: Buck Stoppers, Horn Hunters, The Real Buckin Deal, Team Venison. I'm the newbe on here so I'll go with about anything you all come up with. We won't be wearing any dresses, thats all that matters lol.:tsk:

A little about me team. People call me Charlie (among other things sometimes ;) ). 52 year old grandpa. Maybe the elder statesman of the team:biggrin: Still working full time, working on my house, planning to sell. Planning on having a great bow season and harvest that p&y this year. Will be fun having you all along on the "team".
Now, I will be straight up honest here. I hate bugs. With that said, I normally try to hold out on some cooler weather, preferably a killer frost. But come late mid-late October, my hours in the woods increase and I am hunting every minute I can through November. I will hunt into February if that's what it takes! I hunt in Logan County and am seriously thinking about a weekend near Athens on public. See how it goes. Here's my compound rig (I am going to hunt with a recurve too)

Don't know about you all, but I'm looking forward to this fun contest, especially the stories and pics and sharing stategies. I think the smack talk is hilarious already and I hope everyone approaches it with that in mind.
Now, let's get ready to bring home the venison!
How about Venison Denisons...too corny?

Tip will check in sometime or another boys. He's the guy that hunts with me, actually his stand is about 100yards away from that deer in my "Score this one....Booner" thread. I am sure he has not checked in yet because of his typing, spelling, and reading skills.
You guys take it easy on him, he is slightly retarded, is bi-polar, and suffers from multi-personality disorder . He is funnier than all get out though, so it is alright to laugh at him, however, if you are ever around him/meet up with him, just be careful, sometimes things can set off his bi-polarism and he gets a bit out of control.
I am sure he will provide you with some good names to think of for your team...goofy funny crap roles out of his mouth all the time... He actually refers to his wife as "Sas-crotch" (as in sasquach i.e big foot but with the "crotch" part ad-lib). His delivery is not that good of the word though, he speaks with a bad lisp and ends up slobering all over himself with the "esses" (S), so hopefully you guys pick a name that has none of them in it.
His profession: Pig farmer
I think he has "eaten" his last 4 deer tags, so you guys may want to give him some advice on how to hunt, I try to help, but he refuses to listen to me. Even though he hunts with me, he can only hunt when I am not in the woods, I must escort him and hunt with him due to his problems, so he typically only gets to hunt when I am off the stand and can go with him, so once I get back to camp, I take him out for an hour or so until I get ready to do my evening hunt. I typically take him hunting 5 or 6 times a year, I think he has killed 1 maybe 2 deer and that was around 5years ago before his accident...well, it really wasn't an accident, but between us, it was a "hate-crime" I really don't want to get in to the details, but it's one of those "Don't Ask Don't Tell" things.
He hunts with one of those older small hand-held crossbows. The ODNR gave him permission to use it because of his problems, even though it is not rated with enough pounds to hunt deer legally in the state. I respect them though for standing by their word in making hunting available to all handicap individuals.
It's good to see OhioSportsman do this team thing, he signed up for it hoping that one of you guys could take him hunting with you during bow season for a day or so, it's kinda like one of those "Dream Hunt" things, he has really wanted to go to Athens and be a part of Coonskinners deer camp, would be a nice jesture if one of you guys would offer that to him. It would make his day.
I think that just about covers it on Tip, if he can not /chooses to not answer these threads because of his problems, then I will send and respond to you guys by passing messages back for him.
Oh, he needs some camo, so if you guys have any older stuff that you are not using, then let me know and I'll give you guys my shipping address and you can donate it to him. He's a pretty decent sized lad, I'm not that big myself or I'd donate them, he is around 6ft tall and weighs around 350-375lbs so if any of you have any old camo clothes that you wouldn't mind donating, then let me know. If you are wondering, I met him through sponsoring him through a program similar to Big Brothers Big Sister years ago called "Mended Reeds", they asked me if I wanted a challenge, and in all homesty he really isn't that bad.
Good Luck Team!

Just got off the phone with him, he said he was going to check in with you guys. Said he wanted to quit his job and go on welfare so he thought the team should be called "Team Government". I guess he would like to not work and get paid to hunt via welfare....and knowing him, I wouldn't put it past him.
I'm sure Tip will think of a name....atleast a goofy one. If I was a betting man, I bet he'd call it "Team Jelly Pirate Doughnuts", that's all he thinks about when we hunt...getting to Jolly Pirate to get him a doughnut.
He may want to call it "Team Hillary For President", he loves Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton, he's a dyed in the wool democrat.

Alright, now that I have all my "contest" work posted, let me tell you what I have been doing to get that big buck this year.
Has anyone been following the "learning to kill big bucks" thread? If you haven't, take time to read it, there's some bs in there but a lot of meat.
Anyways, one of the things I keyed on was to seek out some thick cover and ambush a big buck. I been thinking about this spot since last season (how I overlooked it this long is a mystery). It's kind of a thick "pinch point" around the lake. So Sunday morning I put up a stand. The top of the pick is N, with a lake about 50 yards to the north and a horse trail about 40 yards behind me. The wind is going to be the key when I can hunt this stand, but the big boys have to be cutting through here on their way to the hay and corn fields. The does, fawns and young bucks I will see on the trail, but I believe the big boys are staying down in this bottom. I am on a slight side hill on the edge of the bottom where there is still cover but not impenetrable. The trails will become more defined as the season goes on. They are faint now because I believe only the mature bucks are using them. I am going to intercept him going to or coming from his feeding and playground area. What do you think?

Smack...you forgot to mention my iPod :cheeky-smiley-022:
I can stand for 3 to 4 hours. I do have a low profile seat for this setup that locks onto a t-screw, just enough to take the weight off.
We'll see. I been learning this 500 acres for 5 seasons coming up. Been seeing them big boys bound across the hayfields but they don't follow the same trails as the does, smaller bucks. They have to be traveling through this pinch. I really think this is going to be a good 10 to 3 stand actually. Although I may not be deep enough towards the lake.
But I have a my honey hole stand I hunt near Halloween and the first hard frost...it's got a seat ;) :D

Well TIP, my answer to that is I don't think they react to them at all. I don't think deer know what a ladder looks like ;) I have had deer walk past and brush up against them. I have had deer bed/lay down under my stands before! As you can see, I use larger trees that I can stand against for concealment. You can "brush" them in a bit, wouldn't hurt. As long as you don't educate the deer that something is on top of that thing leaning against the tree you are ok.

I did that exact thing I did the very next time I went out. That shine didn't last 2 days...Didn't really realize the reflectiveness till I looked at the pic the next day. I set this up not planning on hunting it last season. My plan was to simply to keep brushing it in and getting the deer used to it until this season. I put it real close off two trails that meet, highways would be better description. But it's gone so I will not know this season if it would have produced. I really want a 15 foot tripod stand at this crossroads. I need to spend the bucks to get the bucks :dizzy:

Going to scout a new property tomorrow. Primarily hay fields and a "bottoms" or drainage area to the west. I am focusing down towards this thick reedy bottoms area along the creek to the south of the hay fields. There is a big buck hangin down here. Landowner gave me permission to hunt him :bouncy:

Went and scouted the new property. The hay fields were being mowed, what a pleasant smell. Sure stirred up the mosquitos though. I was going to help bale for a couple hours but the bailer broke down. Got it to the barn and tore down but he had to wait on parts, so I got out of it. I guess it's the thought that counts right?!
Found me a tree for a stand near where the deer are crossing the creek... traveling a grass swale to the south and east in the evening and I would say they travel north to west in the early morning. Or vice versa, there is corn on to the south of the creek :) Big boy was spotted day before yesterday up in the little woodlot behind the neighbors house/lot.
As the clothes dryer just puked and the washer is not far behind, I'll have to build a stand this week versus buy one. I have the materials, just need to fabricate and assemble. No more money for stands now :nono:
This buck more than likely crosses the road to the other property I hunt too. So I hope to see him when I'm on a stand somewhere.
Hauled home 4 bales of straw for my archery backstop. Will be getting the bows out tonight and tomorrow for some practice. I can shoot to 20 yards from elevated positions. Need that practice, especially with my recurve. Just taking a break from my housework and honeydos.
Hope you guys are as pumped as me to hit the woods with bow in hand!

Got out my compound and moved to the 20 yard mark...up on the deck. Shot 3 arrows, first a field tip, (upper arrow in the red) and then a 100 gr Thunderhead. Don't know how I didn't shear off a vane.
Then the third arrow at the deer's vitals...

Tip
You're right, that last one is ugly.
That new pic of that "no-tine length" 6x4 buck isn't that bad, too bad he doesn't have any tine length.
Looks like only 1 shooter and 2 "maybe's". That one 8 pt is looking good, to bad both his g2's & g3's are both shorter than the ones on his other side.
We'll have a lot of dandy bucks next year.
I'd say we have 4-5 shooters this year all together, and a pot load of
100-110" bucks.
Hope on the 1st day you have that nasty rack thing walk by and you shoot him so I can have it all to myself. You are an expensive hunting buddy, eat me outta house and home!
Ordered about $500.00 worth of camping crap today (Portable Propane water heater with shower attachment, 2 burner propane stove, 2 lanterns, 2 propane space heaters and some other crap). Worked on the camper all evening once I got home.
Got a golf tourny on Friday, I tee off around 1:00. Am going to lay off the beer during the tourny so I can get outta there, drive home, kiss the wife and 3 kids, hook up the camper and roll. I am thinking I will be down there somewhere around 8:00-8:30 should be able to get everything set-up and in bed by 10:00-11:00 so we can hunt the opener.

Don't know nuttin about that pic of that bow you have there, but I do see the "geetars" in the back. Along with golf, I'm an avid guitar player. Been at that for 24 years. Have around 7 of them. From a Les Paul Studio, to my New Fender Strat VG, to my acoustical Takamine (acoustic). I play htem all, used to pick up a lot of chicks, now it gives me something to do during January & February where I'll play 4-18 hours ever day.
Oldhat
Jesse, that's my Alvarez and Fernandez acoustics. I own a 78 Gibson Les Paul Limited Edition, 81 Fender Strat, Ibanez and Harmony electrics. Been playing for 30+ years. Yeah that on the chicks ;) . We should get together and jam sometime. What's your favorite style of music?
Oh, the bows are a Ben Pearson Puma 50# and a Renegade 60# :D
TIP, you got it going on with the buck pictures. Hope you get on that big daddy this season:bouncy:

About the only time I pick up the electric is to play either blues on the strat, or Jimmy Page stuff on the Les Paul (and a mean rendition of Nuge's Stranglehold). When the Acoustic is in my hand, it's a lot of Neil Young, John Prine, and some Classical style Rock and older country. Was weened on Bluegrass though, you might even get some Foggy Mountain Breakdown outta me if you get enough beer in me.
Hey, have you tried out one of the VG Strats they came out with? I had to get one even though I have an early 80's strat. The VG has all of the Roland stuff onboard to change your sound, pretty cool, especially if you want to go from blues into "Rockabilly", just flip a switch, and you've got a tele in your hand. Flip another and you've got a 12 string, flip another and it's an acoustical, flip antoher and your in open D. Pretty cool stuff...all of those tunings drive you nuts with that floating bridge and detonation, this one is just a flip of the switch and wahlah. And when you filp that switch, if you have a good amp, then it does sound like what is pose'd to.

I guess we found another thing we have in common. My brother is a collector and you guy's would probally have a great conversation. I have heard of the models your talking about, but I don't no what end to hold. He lives in Massachuets and comes all the way out here to a guy in Franklin Ohio who has a shop in a old bank, his really expensive ones our in the vault with the no touch sign on them. I know he has a guitar owned by Willie Nelson and one by Johnie Cash. I'll have to ask him for pictures.

Yep, we would have a good old time. I almost always have a band together, although we don't play the bars anymore. Hell, I played standup bass in a bluegrass band for 3 years. I've forgotten more songs than most guys ever learned ;) Day to day playing, I pick on my acoustic. I like to stick to the "classic" rock and blues as well with a little old country...love NY btw. Sounds like we could have a great time around the campfire :)
I have only read about the VG Strats, haven't tried one out. I tune my LesPaul in standard or open G, Ibanez is standard with a floyd rose, Strat is 1/2 or full step down. Acoustic, I love playing in drop D :)
I think my next purchase is a resonator. I love that sound and the old delta blues.

One of the properties I hunt on I got permission (and Tip also) to hunt it solely due to being able to play the guitar. I asked this guy to hunt one year and he said "no". The next year I go to ask him and he is on the couch with a broken ankle pickin' a mandolin. I ask about hunting and he says "no". I tell him I play guitar, he says that he can't play the guitar but loves to play with decent guitar players, I fudge it a bit and say I am "ok" at it. He tells me to grab a seat and tells his ol' lady to go get the guitar outta the bed room. 10 beers later he tells me that I can hunt on his property anytime I like...as long as I bring my guitar from time to time! 4 years later, I always manage to take one of my guitars from time to time.

Thanks, I even get the privilege of being on deerhunt45 team :D . Yes I’m from out of state, North Carolina to be exact, but I have hunted the last few years in Ohio and love it. I have passed on several small bucks hoping for the big one and maybe this will be the year. I will be bow hunting with my new Mathew Drenalin with rage broad heads in a couple different spots. I have a private farm to hunt in Muskingum and a public place in Coshocton that’s a sweet little spot:mischeif: . I did take a my best buck last year from the farm in Muskingum, it wasn’t no giant or nothing but I was very happy….only thing would have made me prouder would have been if I had got it with a bow instead gun becasue it would have made pope young:D . Anyhow I’m glad to be a part of this team and hope I can do my part. I’m not sure just yet if I will get to make it up there before November, but I will be there the 2nd -12th hunting hard and maybe a few times after that if I have not got him by then.

You guys are cheesy!
Tip: I'm holding your toothbrush, Toothpaste, jeans, and shirt hostage! I went to clean the 4runner out today of my golf stuff (to replace it with hunting) and I seen a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a size 52 pair of whitey Tighties! You're killing me!..at least they had no racing stripes!
As mentioned earlier: I've got a golf tourny on Friday, was at the bar with the "boys" tonight...they are already given' me hell about bailing immediately after the tourny (around 6:00) and not drinking beer and playing cards with them all night. So, you can bet on me being there at Teuks at 9:00 Friday evening.
Also, you need to hunt that spot with me on opening morning. Do yourself a favor and trust me and do it! You are a fool if you don't! I also been thinking about that spot you seen/jumped up that buck.....you gotta get on it for a morning hunt!
Did you see my post on my teams thread....I bought some night vision stuff, sure it was expensive, but may be nice for hanging out after dark and sitting by the hay in the field below your stand. The NV stuff will be in tomorrow, gonna warm up on my neighbor tomorrow night!..will have plenty of practice by Friday night for some viewing/deer patterning!
Hehhe, I know one guy that would go crazy if he had night vision stuff...hehehhe, foggy windows would be thing of the past!
I'll be there!

Bugs or no bugs, I am going to take one for the team (or as the younguns put it "man up") and go out opening morning. My dilemna is, do I hunt with my recurve or my compound. I'm thinking my recurve for a couple of reasons 1) I been shooting well out to 15 yards and I can get them that close 2) my son's wish was to take a deer with his recurve, I'm going to do it for him, buck or doe don't matter. My thought process is to take a doe early and get a better handle on the bucks. I don't have no trail cams nor the time to deal with them, but I know I will see bucks. No smack, just fact. Can you imagine the feeling of getting that deer within 15 yards and taking it with a stick and string by intinctively loosing a cedar shafted feathered arrow? I can't wait...

Wrong :nono: My goal going on this fourth season now has been legitimate p&y only. The bow in my hand won't change the vision. But yeah, all you young antlerless deer beware! That means you spikes less than 3 inchers and button bucks :bouncy:
The great State of Ohio is telling this Buckeye Legend that there are too many anlterless deer where we live and to harvest a couple extra to feed the masses. I have to say I agree and thanks for the opportunity!
Oh, I field dress my deer as soon as possible (immediately?), I don't shoot the deer and just cut off the 170" antlers, and I know when decomposition sets in   :cheeky-smiley-022: :mischeif:

Getting too warm. Came back to town and stopped at Milans archery shop. I got to looking at my bow real close this morning and the rubber on my peep was dry rotting, so I got another one and realigned everything in his press. He's got a range set up now, so I have a place to practice some longer shots too!
I plan on hunting in the morning. I'll be going to a different stand tomorrow and looking for one particular deer! Good luck guys! Game on :D

Maybe one of you guys could give him some shooting lessons.....he's shot 2 times this year and missed both times...he should have 20 pts for you boys by now......he's already climaxed this season! Oh, if you are wondering about the 10pt, it is the one he posted in this thread a week or so back that was taken with a trail cam!
Don't beat him up too bad, he is the only guy I know that SHOULD have at least 10-15 P&Y deer on his wall.

slow morning for me- saw 3 doe but to far -gonna try a new found spot in the morn its got water -beans and corn all close together
I've been seeing alot of dead deer in the area that I've been hunting in Lawrence co. I counted 9 deer so far only 2 were button bucks. The woods stink with the smell of dead deer. The deer that I've been seeing have been coming to water at 5;oo in the evening. Seen one 8pt at 5;30 that would go about 110 class. The big 10pt buck came in with about 10 mins. of shooting light left with a small 8pt. and I shot over him. The deer were coming to a dried up creekbed that held about 5 gallons of water in one small hole. Anywhere there is water that's were the deer will be dead or alive . I never seen so many well used deer trails going to water in my life.

I'm pretty disgusted. Snuck out yesterday morning to my honey hole. Was ready to climb into my stand at 5:45 am to try and escape the blasted mosquitoes. Only my ladder was laying next to my tree and my stand was gone. This stand is as far from any roads or trails as you can get on this section of properties. Have had a stand in this tree for many years now, private property and all with no problems. Coulda been gone for as long as since last December, which was the last time I was back there. Shame of it is, this was a "new" hangon last year. They took straps from the ladder and stand and even my bow rope. Probably the same ones who stole my popup blind. Next time I go back there I will have to pack in a new hang on and straps.
I'm done hunting until we get a hard frost! And I can afford another hang on for my favorite spot. Damned the luck! I hate theives :nono: :irked:

I hate thieves my self , they can rout in you know where:rant:
Sorry to here about your stand deerhunt45.
I've had alot of stands stolen over the years and it sucks.
I really hate your stand got stolen 45, does other people hunt there too or was it trespasser's. Our luck will have to get better for the team, Tip missing twice, stands stolen...but we ain't going to give up:D :D I can't wait to get up there, I was hoping to get a trip before Nov. 1 but its not looking good...The first 12 days of Nov. will maybe be all I need though:bouncy: :bouncy: if not I will be planning more trips. Tip have you seen lots of dead deer or just smelling them?

Yeah, it was definitely a trespasser.
I'll recover. We'll recover ;) I worked off my frustration today by slaving around the house. Got a lot done.

I'm happy to report that I've forgiven the scumbags that stole my popup and hang on stand this year. Time to move on.
I convinced the wife that I needed to buy 2 stands to replace the last ones, so I have a backup and all and so I could get a good deal  ;)
I will also be buying cable locks to keep the "honest" folk... honest :mischeif:

Try Sportsman's Guide, probably the best bang for the buck $$.
I went walking around and found them all dead by the creeks.
I shot at the 10pt last tues and haven't been back to the area so he can relax for awhile. I did talk to the landowner and he said the 10pt was back in the same spot early Sat. afternoon going to the same small waterhole that I was hunting.
A co-worker said his son-in-law in the last 2 weeks have found 68 dead deer on the farms that he hunts in KY.

Sorry to hear about all the dead deer. I haven't found any where I hunt although the bugs seem to be really bad.
Kick back for a few days and relax (and purchase more stands)...I can't hunt this weekend, but I will be out every minute I can the following month starting the 16th of Oct :)
Then it's off to Michigan for a rifle hunt and then back to bowhunting in Ohio the week of Thanksgiving! It's a good life :D

I think I will head to camp on Thursday afternoon, hunt the evening and stay until Sunday evening. Just letting you know. I tried to call at least 5 times, but I know either your teenage daughter was on the internet or either you were visiting porno.com.
I'll be there, and I've got my killer face on!
Give me a buzz when you are not on-line at porno.com.... I'll be at my business all day tomorrow.

My Takamine Geetar is going to camp with me tomorrow. The guy we camp on is the one that I gained permission to hunt from being able to play. He asked me where my guitar was when I camped there opening weekend.....I must take it this time to remain on good terms;)
I played that damn thing all day today. I picked it up around 10:30 this morning and just put it down around an hour or so ago. Been working on "Blackberry Blossom", the guy I hunt on said they've got the mandolin and fiddle players to play it, now all they need is me on the guitar....my fingers are literally killing me right now...I think I've got it down though! Pretty cool song to learn if you've never heard it......go to you tube and type in "Blackberry Blossom" then the one from Bluegrassguitar.com is the one I learned over the past 2 days.

Just got back from hunting with oldhat the biggest bragger in the world.
Well after 30 years of bowhunting I did something that i have never done in my life dropped my bow out of my stand.:yikes: I climbed down to check it out and the timing cables were out of whack . So i climb back up the tree and sit and see what would come by and i saw 3 deer. 1 mature doe with a button buck and another mature doe by herself. I was hunting the area that i got the big buck on camera for the first time this year. Well i went home that night and stayed there till morning so i could shoot my old back up bow and went back sat afternoon for a evening hunt out of the same tree and saw 4 deer all does and i passed on them because the only deer i'm going to shoot out of that stand will have to be a buck. Well i had to here oldhat brag about his new world record and state record doe that he killed fri. afternoon. I had to zoom in on the deer with my camera to find it.

You boys are hex'd with Tip on your team, sights having been falling off his bow, missed twice, toss'd his bow off the stand and broke it (I think instead of dropping it, he probably missed for the 3rd time this year and got mad and threw his bow at a deer).
Can you beleive that while I had a deer down (big mommy doe by the way) that Tip was crying over his bow....could've been at the same moment my arrow entered the deer was the same moment his bow hit the ground....hehehe.
By the way Tip, I hunted a new spot tonight that we've never hunted nor you've never stepped foot on.....I seen a 6pt and 3 does.....I'm gonna keep it to myself. Hell. I got you permission on 3 farms now, gonna keep this "secret spot" to myself....and oh, it is on private property and the signs say "TIP KEEP OUT!.......is close to where we hunt!

Well, bought a new stand last night to replace my stolen one. Rivers Edge fixed (hangon). Well built. Came with a nice full body harness, tether and climbing belt. $70 out the door. Oh and to keep the honest folks honest, I bought a cable lock:whistle: All put together and checked out. Going to hang it tomorrow afternoon and hunt out of it ;) :D

Heading out this afternoon and hunting all weekend. My buddie saw 8 yesterday from the area I sent him to with his climber. 4 bucks (one he said was a stud 8 but I blew him off, he's from michigan ;) ) and 4 does....early afternoon. No good shots. I got out late and set the new stand and saw 0. It's still early.
Well i'm up to 20 dead deer in the area that i'm hunting in lawrence co.
Found the first dead buck in this area a 10pt about 110 class.
Went out Mon. evening and blanked.
Went out Wed. evening and passed on a little button buck that was walking around by himself.
Got the bow fixed and been shooting it into my new target.
I've been taking it easy hear lately getting ready to go camping with Oldhat for 16 days.

Al and I hunted hard this weekend. He tries to plan a bowhunting weekend down here every other year. He hunted all day Thursday-Saturday and Sunday morning. I worked and hunted Thursday and Friday evening, Saturday all day and Sunday morning.
Saw quite a few deer despite the wind (gusts and blows up to 30 mph). I had shots but not "the" shot. Al saw lots of deer and passed on a small doe and button. I had a shot at a 2 1/2 year doe and a doe fawn Saturday evening but with the temps, I passed. I really don't need to impose on someone... just yet anyways.
I'm letting things cool off, temp wise and stand wise until this coming weekend. Weather is changing and I can't wait! We need a good frost! Can't wait for November, my favorite month!!!
Best of luck

Sounds like you had a great time deerhunt45.

Saw over 15 deer while on stand this weekend, two does I would have taken but they were in a group of 8, so I had eyes and ears all over and no slam dunk shots on either. One of the bigger does had a broken front left leg, but she was the waryest. Saw three different button bucks, the rest were this years fawns and 1 1/2 year does. Saw one basket rack buck but he was moving through the woods 60 yards or so away. Not one buck was following any of the does. I meant to take out the rattling antlers today and left them in the garage. Might have been a good day for it.
Saturday was overcast, windy...gusting and shifting. Some rain showers in the morn but nothing the wind didn't dry  It definitely felt like deer season this morning, about 35 degrees and foggy, sky full of stars and a bright moon (full moon was Friday). No wind till late morning, then it was light and variable, mostly from NW. Had deer downwind and within 20 yards and didn't get busted. Saw no deer from 12 to 1 and my back stiffened badly, so I got down. Took some pics, but to lazy to upload...same old same old :p
I hope to make it out an evening or two this week, definitely will hunt Friday evening and all next weekend. Good luck guys!

Glad your seeing deer bh4. Are you getting doe in close?
I haven't seen the first shooter buck yet, but I am hunting more a lot earlier this year. In hindsight, maybe I should have whacked that doe with the broken leg, but I didn't want to bust all the other deer out of there. Believe it or not, this is the same deer I saw last year as a yearling with a broken/deformed leg.

88's muh buddie, I think a lot of the little snot , I just quit associating with him when he put up all that fence and power poles around his property...heck, he invited me for a "hunt under the lights" :cheeky-smiley-022:  :)
I just enjoy my time in the woods and since I got a digital camera I enjoy "hunting" with it. Killing time is coming up. I need some meat, so a mature doe is in my sights, provided one of the p&y or booner doesn't show :D If he should, I'm moving on him. I think I have him somewhat patterned and I believe I know at least one of his sanctuaries. You wouldn't believe the amount of open ground this guy is covering right now and you wouldn't believe "my plan" . Hint: it rhymes with hit...and the key word above is open ground ;) ....All of this within ample food, cover and water over at least a 1000 acres. He's hard to hunt, but a plan is coming to mind. If he won't come to me, which is a possibility, I'm moving to him, over on the new property near his sanctuary. It will be boom or bust but worse can happen is I kick him across the road to our other "stands" :gaga:

Well, I was within 2 feet or so of taking a nice plump momma doe this morning. She came in about 8:15 with a doe fawn and button fawn. You could tell they were her brood. I drew on her once and held for several minutes waiting on her to take two steps for a nice quartering away shot, but she didn't take them. The dang doe fawn wouldn't leave her alone. At one point I could have put one arrow through both of them!
Anyways, they hung around for over 40 minutes. I was like a statue in the stand at times, they were facing me alot and my feet were only at 15 feet (ladder stand). I had lost sight of the button, here he had plopped down and I couldn't see him, but he could see me. When I moved to draw again on momma, he sighted me and jumped up and bleated. Game over.
Had 4 other does come in behind me not long after but they took the trail away from me, no opportunities.
Got down at noon and made a pit stop at the truck for lunch. Was in another stand (3/4 mile hike) by 2:00pm. Didn't see any deer until 5:00 pm when two small doe came in looking behind them. Passed a shot on one of them expecting to see more mature doe and maybe a buck following, which I did a little later but they were on a different trail 40 yards away. The buck had a beautiful 8 point frame on the right side and a scrawny forked beam on the left :coco: He could be a bookend for one I took out of the same stand a few years ago. Wonder if it's genetic? That's one reason I took the one.
Great day to be out, I would liked to have seen a more sw wind though. Got tomorrow to go! I feel like I've got to change up a little tomorrow, maybe be a little unorthodox. I'll talk to you later.
Good luck...over and out :D

Well, got an early start this morning. At 5:00am I'm purrin down rt 117 when I see this buck walking towards the road, head down coming across the open field. I had to come to a complete stop when he walked into the center of the road and stopped! Nice 8pt, maybe a shooter next year but big body. I had to toot the horn to startle him out of the road! I thought, o boy this is going to be the day.
Climbed into my stand at 6:30, still plenty dark, and got settled. At about 7:20 (sunrise), it begins to sprinkle and the wind kicked up a bit but still tolerable. It rains some off and on and some of it was like sleet. About 8:05 I get out my tube and give two loud doe estrus bleats and put it away. At 8:15, here comes a buck cruising right into my setup at 18 yards, nose to the ground. Only a small forkhorn, so I let him pass. I saw one other deer moving about 9:00 (couldn't identify it) and that was it. Lasted until 10:00am and I was kinda wet and somewhat chilled. I was almost back to the truck at the barn when the monsoon hit. Got totally wet. So I hung everything up in the barn to drip dry and since my office is close, I came in to get dry and some hot coffee. When this rain passes (which should be soon), I'm back in a stand. More later I hope!

Sorry I didn't get us any points on this trip, I might try again the week of Thanksgiving. I pasted on several decent bucks holding out for something bigger. l00k, I read your story and I must say I am sorry. I'll apologize for that ***** behavior. Most of us in Ohio aren't like that. I have heard several horror stories about hunting Coshocton though and now one more :( :nono: I'm embarrased.
I'll be hunting over thanksgiving, thursday, friday and saturday. You need a place to hunt, let me know. I got room for one.

Well it wasn't all bad we did bring back a few, here are the pictures. My brother-in-law and Dad both scored.

What a rollercoaster, huh? Hang in there. These are some dandy bucks and a great pic, so I'm reposting them :bouncy:

I'll say this:
Your team mate "tip" on here is is my hunting buddy, I am sure he would not have a problem in offering up some of our "old" areas we used to hunt for you and your hunting buddies in the future......all you have to do is say "OK". we can show you plenty of areas where you can hunt when you decide to come to Ohio and not have to deal with these types of folks....again, all you have to say is "Oldhat I'll take you up on the offer".
Bowhunting shouldn't have to be a "burden", most "honest" bowhunters will "back off" your location once they realize the precence of another bowhunter (I know I do), so if you are interested, I can show you (personally) a few "un-molested" spots that you will have no trouble with others at all on public hunting lands.
Again , just let me know.

I really appreciate the offer guys, and will definitely keep these offers in mind. I'm now trying to see if I will be able to make another trip Thanksgiving week, i'm taking off from work again Nov. 21st-Dec. 3rd:biggrin: I might try to hunt the last 3-4 days of bow and if not done any good may stick around for 2-3 days of gun...but thats just a thought. Its hard making to many trips with gas prices where they are.
Congrats to you bowhunter4eve on your bowkill.
Sorry to hear about your deer being stolen from you l00k.
I'll be more than glad to show you some spots on the wnf.

Returned last evening from a week trip up north for rifle camp. Saw deer everyday. Mostly does, one little devil deer (less than 3" spikes) and a 6 or 8pt on the last morning hunt which I couldn't get off a good shot on.
Back to bowhunting in Ohio this holiday weekend! Happy Thanksgiving.
ps. TIP I read your about your bad luck. Check your pms.

After work this morning, I hiked in to a stand and got settled by 11:00. Thought I might catch some midday chasing but it was slow, didn't even bump one going in. Sat till 14:30 and only saw one deer, moving through the woods in front of me at about 60 yards. Couldn't identify it. Got down and hiked back to the truck for a sandwich and then went to a different stand for evening. Saw 3 deer from 15:30 till dark. One was a basket 6pt. Nice day!
Back out first thing in the morning under the nearly full moon :)
Anybody else hunting? What's happening out there?

Well I didn't get to make my second trip, sorry for the let down guys. I have been tied down to work lately since I didn't work but 4 days the whole month of November so I havn't even been on here to much lately. You don't know if he took that with a gun or a bow?
But you do! Is that your point?!?! :cheeky-smiley-022:
We are going to have to sort this thing out, are you and TIP hunting buddies or not  I'm saying BS. Why wouldn't you help a brother out? We get you and TIP together with the rack after he gets it back, I'll take a picture of you both and the bow, and you testify you know TIP shot it with his bow. Now this could all take place over breakfast, however to prevent any perceptions of payola everyone is on their own for their breakfast tab!
This is all about TIP being the sportsman and team mate that he is, he tagged the horns and that should count for something in a "fun" contest.
I'll be hunting tomorrow team!

I'm just raising hell man, from the looks of it, you guys are gonna need a lot more help in catching the leaders than tips deer alone.
Oh, the mount won't be done until Late March/early April. If he wants it back earlier than I could probably make a call, of course that would cost him 10 more little debbie lunchcakes.
TIP:
I was covered up with deer this evening, I had 7 does come in, I had them and 2 bucks come in, I had deer all over me, and I was on the ground...was pretty amazing, as I had one doe head bobbing me from about 20ft.....she never spooked. I was in "his" (big boys) bedding area, you know where I am talking about...just below those big rubs from last year below the stand I shot my 13 point from. The 2 bucks were scrubs, one was that 3pt we always see, and the other was a 90" 8pt with the "white" rack that I seen on Gale's earlier this year.....all these deer were hitting red oak acorns pretty hard. I had all of these deer within 30 yards of me at some point, the most I had at once was 5 around me at the same time. Seen a Spike and 3 does from that stand on Gale's I hunt, seen 2 does around the clearcut, didn't see anything but a self-climber from your stand...it was right across the fence where the deer cross on Kaisers...that's the report from the last 3 days.

To be honest,I'm pretty much done deer hunting this year, with 4 deer in the freezer I'm set till next sept.Man after driving 5 hours too and from my hunting grounds I'm tired of driving.I'll try to make it out the last 2 weeks before I put new string on the bow and start tuning it.We will not see ice till mid feb,I knew I would Jinx the ice by getting my ice shanty set up and ready to go.Along with pulling the 4 wheeler out of the shed.I'm putting those things away again so the ice will come, I believe if I do that  the ice will appear.Tomorrow looks really good to sit in a tree tho.Goodluck if your going out.

Yep I'm headed out. Going to go early, set a new stand and then hunt it till dark. New view should keep me interested  Plus I saw some new rubs on the trail near another stand. Yeah, I'm goin ;) :D Hope the big buck I finally get a shot at still has his antlers :16suspect1:
These next two weekends are critical. As Oldscat would say, I'm a headhunter and sometimes you pay the price. I won't shoot no young buck for the sake of it, I will shoot a nice mature doe and still have a buck tag.
I can't wait until my grandsons are old enough to go, one almost is and is starting to express an interest with going fishin and huntin with papa (their dads are not really fishermen nor hunters) and the other is not far behind (7 and 6 yrs.) They have both been fishing a few times and liked it. The fishing is the easy part, teaching them discipline with a weapon is harder. I'm thinking some groundhog hunting next spring, I have a nice Ruger M77 .22 bolt action with a scope on it for them to shoot. At the same time, I have access to some youth bows and outdoor archery range. The youth bows will surprise them this spring as well.
How young is too young for an Ohio hunters safety course, 10 or so? I'll look it up. Well, I hope I'm still getting around when they can bowhunt and want to take me and going to do my best to see they get the exposure and some experience to our wonderful outdoors. So many kids don't and that is a travesty. I'm going to quote someone whom I have met on several occasions and admire quite a bit..."Take your kids hunting and never have to hunt for your kids"...
:)

Welp, excuses are like you know what...the furnace started acting up last night, the thermostat would call for heat, everything would start up and then mid cycle would shut down and immediately restart, pilot burner blower and all. It would do this 3 times before the thermostat was satisfied. Stayed home this morning and called a buddie who works on furnaces (and was booked with work) and told him my symptoms. He said it sounded like the pilot flame sensor and suggested taking it out and cleaning it. The good news is it seemed to work and the furnace is acting normally. The bad news is I didn't go hunting but I figured I saved $150 bucks by staying home, at least for now. Tomorrow I will be out hunting and hope to be posting some pics :)

I did have a great time deerhunt45 and will be back next year for sure, although it will be hard to beat last year's season. I just hope the oppurnities and sightings are half as good. I will give it a try again this weekend. Got one buddie coming down from Michigan and he has a tag he wants to try to fill. One buddie couldn't make it. But at least two of us will be out there braving the elements. It's going to be cold. I'm thinking hunting mid morning for a couple hours then midday till dark. Hunted Saturday from 11 am till sunset. It was about 12 degrees when we started with 10-15 mph wind gusts and it didn't get any warmer during the day although it was sunny at times. Let me tell you when that sun dropped on the horizon around 5:30 it got cold. 7 degrees with wind chill.
Al hunted from a popup blind, saw 8 deer, all does but none within bow range. My bad Al, wrong side of the hay field. I was in a ladder stand for a couple hours, saw nothing and got down out of boredome and stiffness. Circled around and got the wind in my face and still hunted. Got within 50 yards or so of 2 bedded does. The ground was so crunchy that was as close as I got, no shot. The deer were not moving. Found one doe and one buck carcass.
Sunday rolled around and my thermometer said -1 and I stayed home. Bowhunting with a vertical bow in weather like this weekend is truly a challenge.
I may get out another evening or two. Again I've had a great archery season, spent a lot of time on stand/in the field and saw a lot of deer. Lots of laughs with this "fun contest" thing. I'll come clean, I ain't sandbaggin and I might need some help to figuring out how to kill the "big bucks"...maybe I should give up being a headhunter

I slept in at my parents house until 10:30 both mornings, my mother had a big breakfast ready both mornings. Good to see you were freezing your nads off, but I didn't think it was that cold this weekend..hunh, guess I never did make it outside to see.:D
Now I'd come up and show you how to take those big bucks on your property, but it's according to how good you are on the "geetar". Maybe you could give me some lessons there.
Now I might have to invite you down to my "honey hole" and hunt this next year as we all play music....so, if I ask real nice to the land owner and tell him you are a "player", he might just OK it for you to hunt one long weekend with me and Tip...music may be your way in. Now if you are good at guitar, he may just boot Tip outta there and let you hunt verses him because all Tip does is watch us play, can't sing, can't dance, can't play, he just takes up air and listens/watch us play. We have a fiddle, banjo, piano, dobro, harmonica, and about 5 guitar players, I'm the singer and guitar guy, we play everything from Classic Rock to Bluegrass and drink a hell of a lot of beer. Even have a preacher show up from time to time, I try to limit my expletives around him and my beer intake, but sometimes get carried away...hehe I'm sure he has prayed for me some!
