After hitting the woods hard Fri and Sat and we decided to hunt a "fresh" farm Sunday. We roosted birds there Sat night and got set up. Birds hammered this morning. We had a gobbler working in not over 75 yards away, but hens got in the way and led him down the hill. We had a jake in the dekes that gobbled his brains out!! I bet he gobbled 50 times at our jake and hen dekes. My buddy has hunted hard all week with no luck, so he dropped this jake at 10 steps since the gobbler didn't come in. When he shot the gobbler shock gobbled about 250 yards away. We tried cutting him off, but he went down into a STEEP hollar where we lost him. It hasn't been a bad week. Dad got a jake on the opener. I got a nice gobbler on Wed, and my buddy got his first bird of the year today(Sunday). We've had our fun with the jakes. I have my sights on another long beard!! I'll be back out Fri, maybe some of the hens will go to nest by then.
