I was just curious if anyone else here uses or has used Tecomate seed? We planted Tecomate Chicory and Tecomate Monster Mix brassicas recently. Everything has sprouted and started up already. I was curious if anybody could provide any information on expected growth rates for Ohio with either product. I'd like to have some idea what to expect. Thanks in advance, folks!

No Tecomate users, eh? I'm the guinea pig!? :dizzy:
We checked on ours today. After about 10 days or so, the chicory is popping up and the brassicas are a little over an inch high!

You an OU grad, bowhunter1023? I'm in Athens County, went to OU for my bachelors and grad work.
Let me know how yours is doing, our Ultra Forage looks great so far! It's probably twice as high as the chicory already. :)

I put some out 8 days ago (along with hot spot). So far so good (kinda) Rain we got seemed to push alot of seed around but I got clover just shy of 2" but the brassicas is easy over 3" just not as thick. 1st time trying the food plot thing, I just followed what bowhunter did.

Cream... Yes, I am an OU grad. Best four years of my life. I was there from 01-05 getting my BA in Marketing. If you can find a safe haven from the liberals, it can be a great place. We used to go out to Strouds and shot all the time. Hunted there and Zeleski some too.
Went out to check my plots last night and here is how the Ultra Forage is doing. It was planted July 24th.

The other plot I planted then was some Evolved Harvest Plot Shot. 50/50 mix of turnips and brassicas. It too was planted July 24th.

Healthy looking stuff! It's too bad you're gone from OU, because there is finally a Sportsmen's Club here (I'm the VP). We have organized a few fishing tourneys, pheasant hunts, fundraisers, and a turkey hunt this spring to a place in Vinton County owned by our sponsor, BuckEye Cam.
Here is a photo taken Saturday of our Ultra Forage, but it's only been in the ground about 9 days at the time of this photo:

Just looks like a green haze in the photo, but it's pushing an inch high in this pic.

Now that is a good looking seed bed! Very nice.
I have heard many good things about the Sportsmans Club down there. I was President of the 2nd Amendment Club for 3 years, helped to found the Archery Club my senior year but I believe it failed after I left, and was very involved with the College Republicans. I was too involved in all that to start a Sportsmans Club. Had I had it all to do over again, I would have went that route. I'm glad to see you guys doing that stuff. Keep at it. It can get frustrating, but it will get better. Good luck this year with the Club and the hunting. I'll let you know next time I visit and we can sling a few arrows or have a beer. I only live 45 minutes away..

those are good looking plots guys, and as jesse said the seed bed looks good, almost looks like you drilled it, but maybe just used a drag after you broadcasted, either way both plots look good, The cream i couldnt help noticing your sitting in a rhino i love ours..

We had to go past the plot for something last night, and we were surprised to see how much it has grown just since Sunday! The chicory is starting to get the green "haze" look where it is shooting up, and the brassicas (Ultra Forage) is looking SUPER! I think it grew another inch in the last three days. :yikes:

Jeff... Keep me posted on this plot. I am curious as to how mine stacks up. It is not the ideal location. And I don't know enough about plants to know if that grass is part of the mix, or a problem I need to get rid of next year.

Actually, if you planted Ultra Forage, which is a brassica mix, don't worry about the weeds because that is an annual plot. It will have to be re-done next year, anyway. If it is clover or chicory or something else that comes back for 3-5 years, then I'd worry about grass.
We have a small clover plot that was our "learning experiment" last spring that may need re-donw this coming year because of grass and weed problems. We have tried two different grass-killer treatments that worked a little, but a third round of spot-spraying KillzAll was about the only thing that killed the grass clumps. We may wind up spraying all of it with KillzAll and re-planting it next spring/fall.

That part I know. What I am skeptical about is what is actually growing. What do you think?

Yeah, it looks like there is some grass, but there is a LOT of broadleaf brassicas I see there! Also keep in mind that most brassicas (like turnips) keep growing until the soil gets really cold. I'm thinking turnips grow until soil temps dip down in the TWENTIES! Grasses stop growing long before that. I think you should be fine for this year.

I can visualize that plot getting hit hard by the deer this fall :bouncy:
I think the deer will tolerate a little grass with their lettuce  ;) :D http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/dunno.gif
