Anyone has used one of these for foodplot? Just wondering if it is worth the money. Does the no-weight mechanism work, or weight needs to be added anyway?
Are there better brands and designs out there that you have experience with?

I can't speak for the disc, but we have a couple pieces of King Kutter equipment on the Farm. We've got a brushhog, a boxblade, and another thing or two. They seem to be ok, pretty tough. My only complaint would be that seem to be harder to hook up (3 point) than other equipment, I don't know why. Just seems like you have to beat the hell of them to make 'em go on; but that just may be the way they are with our tractors.

King Kutter is an economy brand of implements. They'll get the job done, but don't always withstand abuse well. The finish often leaves a lot to be desired, but that's really not all that important. I've never used the disk harrow, but I stongly suspect you'll end up adding some weight. You can usually get a better quality piece of equipment for less money by attending farm auctions, but some pieces will require some work before being ready to use. It may also take a while to find what you want by attending auctions.

I have the 33" King Cutter and put in several test plots this spring and am gearing up to do my winter plots here very soon. The disc as a whole works quite well......you will deff want to add a little bit of weight to it. I was using some cement blocks that I had lying around and strapped them right to the top of it. I picked it up this spring from TSC after scouring machinery auctions picking up some less than adequate pieces. So far I am pleased with my purchase.

Oh yeah...if you do want to look at some machinery sales.....there is a big one going on this weekend in Kidron They have two of them per year and this Saturday is the Summer/Fall sale. LOTS of smaller implements design to be pulled by horses...so quite possibly something that could be converted into an ATV implement. In the spring sale they had allot of pull type spreaders also....I still want one of them...

On the subject of weight, we use blocks on our small disc (not KK).
But a little discing tip: when we really want it nice like before we plant rye; we have a telephone pole section on chains we drag behind the disc (and when it's not in use, I guess it's adding a bit of weight).
