Well I spent a few hours yesterday checking on the food plots and moving cameras around. Got the cameras in a couple of good spots. One is by a creek crossing where I found some big tracks. I put my other one on the border of my sanctuary near a fence crossing that looked to be in good use. We'll see in a week or two...

Overall, the food plots are doing fine. The larger plot has a grass problem again this year and some of the areas are not getting enough sun. But the best part of the plot is the area closest to the stand, so it could be worse. My smaller plot is actually doing better than expected. It washed a little so it won't be super thick, but what is growing, is growing well. We planted 3 weeks ago tomorrow. At this point I can say that I am happy with the progress and can't wait to get my last plot together this week. My Dad finally has some time to help and we are taking the tractor out tomorrow to brushhog the area and hopefully we can get the disk out there too. This plot will be big enough for a tractor, and I can actually get one to it unlike the others. I got some Buck Forage Oats to put out if I can do it soon...

The smaller plot...

I got a grass problem again. Sure wish the whole plot looked like this...

That looks like a plot that we planted a two years ago it seemed like it did not get enough sunlight and to mutch pressure. We took our bulldozer in and pushed it out to at least one acre. we are now ready to plant that plot.
Also what we have found that if you spray then disk or till let your plot green up then spray/till you will have less weeds or grass in the long run. it is a little more work but worth it......:bouncy:

bowhunter1023,

I just caught up with your posts about your plots. Thanks for sharing. When I first got started in this I was probably your age....I'm 30 now and the food plot wheel started to crank in me about 7 years ago. One thing I will point out right off the bat....you say you want your whole plot to look like the real green section does.....I know what you need to do.

This winter go in and take out a 10 yard radius of trees around the perimeter of the plot. The reason that one area is so green is because it's the only area getting enough sunlight. If you do this you will have grass growing in it year round and you can spray the plot multiple times before planting your brassicas next August. One other thing I will point out is the 100 lbs of pel lime you put down did nothing to change the PH. you would need alot more to do anything to your PH...but the good news is you're already a 6.3, so save that money next time.

Other than that, I really commend you on an incredible budget to put the plots in. You have done a great job with the money spent. We plant about 15 to 25 acres a year and let me tell you, it is not any $400! If you ever have any questions about food plots, land ownership, deer, or anything else please don't hesitate to PM me here.....and great job once again.
