View Full Version : Bass are bitin
The bass bite has been as hot as the weather!
The Mrs. and I found a couple weed beds just
off shore in 6 -10 foot of water and they were
loaded with largies, top water is good early, but
they've been killing coachdog colored RayBob Bombers
the best. Here's a couple from yesterday.

WLB what part of the bay have you been fishing and where do you launch from? I have wanted to fish the Bay for years but just have not gotten around to it. I think It is time any help would be appreciated
Thanks for the compliments everybody, sorry I couldn't respond quicker but
I don't get as much time on here as I use to.
As far as the pike go, I use to catch a few every year along the shoreline but
I haven't got one in a couple years now. I did pick off a small musky a couple
years ago in the Catawba area.
I fish the Sandusky bay a lot for bass and cats, I usually ramp out of Dempsey
and fish the north side of the bay for largies, miles of good water.
There's smallies around cedar point break wall and between bay point and the
lighthouse, but all that is really getting pounded right now by the tourney guys.
Warning, if you head to the lake out of Dempsey, make sure you go all the way to the shipping channel markers before you make that left turn, there's a big sand bar just past Johnson's Is. that is less than a foot deep most of time!
You can also use the Sandusky city ramp, where most of the tourneys are weighed in. Fish that area for fish that were caught in the tourneys, but most of it's deep and they scatter pretty fast, but you might have a chance at one of those big lake smallies.
I'd say if you want some easy largemouth fishing your best bet would be to ramp out of Mazurick on the main lake and head over to East Harbor, it's getting beat to death also, but it's holding up good to the pressure. A lot of guys are fishing the breakwalls coming in and those fish are pretty well beat right now, but if you go back inside the harbor and fish the weeds or the marinas, especially Tibbles( I got two 5lbers out of there so far this year.) you should do all right.
The weeds are thick, so bring top water stuff, some days they'll hit it all day,
other days your going to have to work the holes and edges.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. One more thing if you were going to fish the bay next month and Oct, for perch what area would be your choice? light house? off the coal docks in Sandusky?
I do all my perch fishing east of Kellys.
I know guys that do good at both places that you mentioned, in front of Johnsons in 10 ft. of water can be good at times also. If I had to pick one of the spots you mentioned, it would be the lighthouse. Good Luck.

First off nice pics. Planning my first trip to Sandusky Bay the weekend of Oct. 6th. Is the bass fishing any good this late? Any pointers or places to head to with a 16 footer deep v or aluminum bass boat? Plan to launch out of Dempsey or East Harbor any good lodging nearby? Any help appreciated.

east harbor has a campground. I think u could do ok fishin' then prolly the smallies will be on in the lake for the fall bite.
You should do ok the first of Oct. if you don't catch a bunch of north wind.
Both places you mentioned will produce largemouth and a few smallies.
The biggest hassle this time of year is floating weeds(east harbor), try making short cast with any lure you choose to avoid waste time winding in weeds. Out of Dempsey, you may want to try fishing Johnson Is. causeway and the channel running thru baypoint.
The shoreline between Huron and Vermillion produces some nice smallies, catch a south wind, ramp out of cranberry marina, turn right and fish the rock piles in 12 to 30 foot of water. Good Luck!
