I set dad up in this field this morning where the birds have been hitting just about every day. At day light 11 birds flew out in it. 7 hens, 2 jakes, 2 gobblers. The gobblers stayed out of good range he said(60 yrds) and eventually left the field as the hens carried them off. The jakes however stayed. He called over 2 jakes, one in full strut. He wasn't going to shoot it he said, but then he thought he might not get out that much this spring so he hammered it at 42 steps. It weighed 14 lbs and had a 4" beard. As he was waiting on me to pick him up at noon, 4 more birds came out in it about 2 hours after he killed this one. He said he saw birds just about all morning. Too bad the gobbler stayed out of range, oh well. They'll be there for me to kill:D me on the other hand, I'll just say I still have a tag to fill. I got after a henned up gobbler on the farm this mornning who gobbled great till about 8:30am, then he shut off. I chased him from fly down till 8:30am. After 8:30am I lost him. I tried cutting him off, but no luck. I'll be back out again later this week.
