well today was kind of a bummer. in the last month i had seen and heard at least 75 birds on the 5 farms i hunt.sunday i watched 4 gobblers strut on a hillside for at least an hour, and was shure they would be there today, ya right i didnt even hear a single gobble today:confused: i was really disapointed. i hunted tuscawaras county. from the lack of shooting that i heard in the distance (3 shots all day) i dont think any opening day records were shatterd. ill be back down in the am, hopefully the rain tonight will cause them to dry off in the open fields in the morning;)

Dad got one this morning. Jake, he weighed 14 lbs, 4" beard. He saw a total of 15 birds today. The gobblers were henned up and wouldn't come in close enough for a good shot. He shot the jake at 42 steps with an 870 supermag and winchester 3.5" #5's. He said the bird never flopped. I got skunked this morning, but I did find some shrooms on the way out.

We heard gobbles galor up until 8, then nothing. Saw four different hens, came in groups of twos, but no gobblers came within range. We think we got them pegged for tomorrow.

one less 19 lb 9 inch long beard with 1 inch spurs around after a wet morning. took an hour and a half for him to come across the field. was a little shy of the decoys at first. Saw several (7) in this big field, only one came across the field to the decoys. Almost did not go as it was raining so hard this morning when I got up. Last year I shot one in the rain. Maybe its the lords way of testing me to see how bad I really want one since I am sure he knows how much I hate to hunt in the rain.
