Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting a new recurve. Lookin for something $500 or less, and I hunt off the ground with and without a blind so I'd like something short. I was looking at the Bear Kodiak Mag. Any suggestions?

if you have a longer draw you may be asking for trouble with a short bow like the mag...at 52" its very short...generally the longer the bow the easier to pull it back...
ancient spirits will make you a bow for around 500 dollars...or you can buy one of their bows off the rack...45 pound is a good weight to begin with...say in a 62" or 64"...the ancient spirits guys will gladly help you make the right decision and they operate just outside of columbus...i have never had a problem with a 64" bow that i wouldnt have the same problem with a 52" bow when it comes to brush or shooting from a stand...xception may be in a tent blind with a low roof height...a short bow may be the only way there...ancient spirits is a very good custom bow at a very fair price...used bows like old shakespears, bears, pearsons etc. can be had for as low as 50-60$...and not hard to find at 90-125$ in good cond...but generally these bows will be in the 60" or shorter category...good luck...and when you get your bow, come out to an osta shoot...many there can help you...:D

I bought a RedWing Hunter several months ago and have been shooting that quite a bit. Finally got to the point where I can shoot it pretty well, and I feel comfortable to hunt, but would just prefer something a little heavier than 45 lbs.. I have a 28" draw. Do you guys think the Kodiak Mag would be too short for me?

again if youre over 6 ft. tall it could cause problems...some people with long draw will have a problem...or maybe even most...a kodiak magnum stacks badly at about 28"...i definately notice it,but its better than most 52"ers i've shot...there is a good reason you will see most archers using 62" and 64" recurve bows...the longer the limbs, the farther they will bend easily...if a person has a 26" draw or less a kodiak mag would work ok...according to strength level i guess too...and draw length can be shortened...but there is tall people who can shoot short bows...its a very good bow thats for sure...and a nice one can be had for 125-150$...but you may run into some very good deals...good luck:biggrin:

Muh kodiak magnum's shootz great @ 45#- got two of em -got a 29" draw - most are afraid of em cuz their short - tried to get mull ta use one for turks otta his blind - but he's to traditional - needs one of them longer bows thats easier ta pull - TA guys are always looking for some kind a cruch ta make it easier - step up to the challenge and shoot a short bow ;) :mischeif:

Awesome hoot, sounds good. Only problem is I probably won't be back in Ohio for a while. I'm down here in Arkansas this summer taking classes, and I'm still not sure if I'm going to make it back before the fall semester. When's the Millersburg shoot?

If there is anyone's opinion that you should trust it's Hoots. You'll be fine with his bow.
