I have been checking out the www.greatlakesoutdoors.com family of sites, and I see where in the www.michigansportsman.com they have a MDNR officer as a moderator and a member. Why can't we work with the ODNR officers in Ohio and get one to moderate and answer questions here.
I would like to see some of the shoot it and leave it rot cleaned up here in the forums on this site. If we ever want this to be a true sportsman's site then we have to clean it up to where we can be proud in which our children can come and gather information on our great outdoor sports in a positive manner. We need to teach and promote sound ethical practices and morals of the highest degree concerning the outdoors, this is what I want to see become of this site and I hope the owners do also. I realize there is that negative side to the outdoors like poaching, slob hunters etc, and we have it here. I feel to be a true sportsmen you have high morals and those sound ethics I'm talking about. Until the folks here are willing to help clean it, this place will just be another average site. I see this thing Steve has here as a good thing and I believe it can be the creme de la creme of outdoors sites.

i still do not like the word sportsman used insted of hunter or fisherman...the term came about from teddy roosevelt so recreational hunters were not to be confused with the professional hunters that shot our game to near extiction before regulated hunting.many non hunters confuse "sport" as hunters competing against each other to see who kills the most game.the same can be said for the TERM trophy hunting.this creates a poor image of hunting or fishing.i am drawing this info. from a few good books on hunting ethics i have read and from seminars on the subject that i have attended.

I would love to have an ODNR officer on these forums as there is in the Michigan forums. Anybody know somebody?
As for the "clean up" just exactly where do you think we should begin in your HO?

I have a wildlife officer who lives 1/2 mile from me, I asked him to join awhile back he said he did not have time to be on the internet much but he did check the site out.
I sent an email to the ODNR, and explained what we are looking for. I'll keep you all postedat what I hear.

Before I possibly take offence at this I want to know if this is in reference to leaving g'hogs belly-up for the buzzards. (be prepared for a rebutal, I have a soap box ya know.)

there use to be a guy that came on the ohi0 bowsite but many were rude to him and the armchair qb's knew more then the wildlife biologists and professionals.he had facts and figures that was much better then their ecucated guesses .they ran him off.can't blame them for not sharing their valuable info.

I say a good place to start is cutting out all that talk about (shooting something and leaving it for the buzzards or tossing fish in a dumpers along with sticking things by the hundreds). I think anyone who mentions doing stuff like this should be penalized in some way not only here, but in real life by the wildlife officers when they take part in such acts. This makes us all look like we are hunter's and fishermen who actually take part in those kind of practices, so stricter moderation will help be a deterrent in the forums section.
As for the wildlife officer as a patrolman here, thats a good idea and I can't believe in the 88 counties Ohio has we can't find 1 who would not want to take the time out to answer questions and do a little policing when it comes to bad sportsmanship. I feel that when you kill it and leave it your no better than a poacher or someone who just has a fixation on killing animals for the fun of it. Thats not the reflection I want to see us promote here, when it comes to the outdoors I want to see we sportsmen here promote the highest morals and outdoor ethics as possible. Remember a few bad apples can ruin the whole bushel, nobody remembers the good guys and the good they are trying to do when people come here from the outside and read about such negative acts being posted by our so called sportsmen.
to be continued.......

I think bucktail is refering mainly to the bowfishing, am I right??????
IMO, I will not shoot anything, ever, if I dont plan on eating it..........I quit hunting squirell and rabbit several years ago, because I just did not enjoy the meat anymore.
But deer is a different story, I love venison!
Personally I believe if you are going to waste fish and wildlife, dont brag about it, do it silently

Flathunter: Is it concidered a waste if predators/scavangers benifit from the harvesting of trash-fish & varmints? From what I've seen, in real life not on the Disney Channel, they don't let nothing go to waste!;)
But in some peoples opinion their eating it is a waste.
Go to forum trapping & varminting then thread, about who all hunts g'hogs. I don't think he's talking about bowfishers. ;)

I just went and read bucktails comments about shooting ground hogs...And I must say I agree with him 100 percent...And I am entitled to my opinion, just like you are....If you are not going to grill it, dont kill it....I am not going to get into a pissing match about this..I dont condider any fish trash fish, or just because an animal is clasified as a varmit does that mean it deserves to die and rot in a field????????
I dont have a problem with bowfishing or shooting grounds hogs at all, if the meat is eaten....My granfather used to shoot many groundhogs, I used to watch him, and the family ate everyone he shot.
I work with guys who brag about blowing the heads off groundhogs and give each other high fives, agin I have no problem with this if the ate them, or gave them to people to eat.
But to let them rot in a field sickens me, I am done with this topic, should not have responded in the first place

All this time I have been immoral & unethical by sharing my harvest w/ family, friends, & wildlife & not eating it all myself.:o
I am truly a varmint in the sportsman/hunter society.:(
By the way "trashfish" is a term I got out of a booklet from the DNR, but what do they know?
Do you have a recipe for mice/rat stew? I think I'm gonna need one.:D
Just by chance do you varmint hunt any?

Are you guys really serious here? I mean have you ever tried eating some of the animals you are telling everyone else to eat? Groundhogs are horrible, better to just leave them belly up. I know some ppl like venison, but I think it is nasty, I cut the rack off and leave the carcass. And wild turkey, YUCK, might as well eat dirt! Throw em in the woods and something will eat them. And what would you have us do with carp? Just because they are the best fighting fish in the water does not mean they have a right to live, I have a bow and I am bigger than them! Might makes right, you know!!! Killing is fun!!!

bucktail,if you would live up to your signature line, you would almost be tolerable(i said almost).but you keep leaving out the good, and have nothing but the bad and the ugly to say about people on this site, and now you want to suggest that steve "clean up" things that YOU don't like:rolleyes: give me a break man.
kill4fun, I don't care if this was posted as a joke, but it is not the least funny.
