This is from the Ohio DNR site:

"A special youth-only turkey hunt, for hunters 17-years-old and younger, will be held April 26 and 27, prior to the regular spring gobbler season. Young hunters must have their hunting license and spring wild turkey permit to participate, and must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, 18 years of age or older. The young hunter's turkey season is open only on pubic hunting areas with the exception of Lake LaSuAn Wildlife Area in Williams County."

I haven't bought my hunting license or tag yet. I found out this weekend though that someone placed a blind 30 yards behind where I hunt on another's property.....I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do about that yet.

archer077...do you know the reason why just on public land this year.

I think the reason for public land only is so some adults don't try to take advantage of the early season for themselves. It's a shame they have to do that, but it's probably a good idea. We had some success this morning. 20 lbs., thick 9 1/2" beard, sharp 1 3/16" spurs. http://www.ohiosportsman.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=265[/IMG] http://www.ohiosportsman.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=264&password=&sort=7&thecat=525[/IMG]

Dandy bird Mr. Magis! Is that the boy's first gobbler? My son shot his first in Noble Co. back in '87 at the age of 13. Special times for sure between father & son. Hope you have as many good times in the turkey woods as we have over the years:D .....TF

Thanks guys. Actually, that's his second bird. Two years ago, when he was 13, we got a nice two year old gobbler. I think we were all just as excited over this one as the first. It's nice to see a young city kid enjoy hunting so much. He lives in Columbus, and really doesn't have any hunters in the family, but he absolutely loves it. He spent a lot of the week out scouting by himself, and has no problem gettting up at 4:30 a.m. to go turkey hunting. If only all the kids were like that.
