I'm wanting to plant my own corn here at the house to put in the deer feeders on the property where I hunt and was wondering if I should plant field corn or sweet corn.

How much are you going to plant? 1/2 acre, 1 acre? 5 acres?

I think it makes a difference. You really should have corn up already if that is your crop of choice..

Just planning on planting a 1/4 to 1/2 acre deerhunt45. The reason it's not already in the ground is I had to clear out a spot to plant it first.

Did you hit the area you cleared with some RoundUp?

If you are gouing to use it right away sweet corn would work and imo the deer prefer it to field corn. If you are planning on storing some for later use you would do better with field corn. Sweet corn dries down too much shortly (couple weeks) after picking to be of much use.

1/4 to 1/2 acre of sweet corn will never make it past the coons.;) I don't know what sort of feeders you have, but sweet corn isn't something you can typically take off the ear easily.

Yeah, if your gonna use it to put in feeders, you will need to plant field corn, like m.magis said coons will destroy sweet corn, the field corn will also stay good for longer, and if you leave it standing the deer will hit it until its all gone, sweet corn will dry up real quick, if you havent already you need to get it in the ground real quick...
