I just got back from Texas , hooked up with a guy from mudshark, Jscope is his name, he took me to Ray Roberts lake north of Dallas , shot some good gar average was 5 lbs, long nose , these were my first gar, shot alot of commons average was 12lbs , the water was real mudy we had to shoot a the v"s and that was hard , i did get a shot on an gator gar , he was about 15 yards a way and broad side to me , but mr arrow did not stick , i was shootin 40 lbs on my bow , he was about a 4or 5 footer. but i had a blast, i missed 2 good 20 lbs long nose gar , i was to anxious so i blew it . i am definetly going back some day

To some people down south gar and carp are the best fish to eat....They even serve them in some restaurants down there.

gar meat is some of the best fish you will eat. i sold a bunch of our gar to a fish market a couple of years back and made 400 dollars.they are just a real pain to clean. on the big ones we used a circular saw and tin snipps. any how take them and bread them in corn meal and red pepper and deep fry them. i also have a guy that i gave him a fillet nearly 6 ft long and he chopped it up and made gar chowder out of some of it. it was prettty good. and by the way carpwarrior whenever you decide to go again let me know and i will tell you where you can shoot some big ones. tracy

carp warrior don't git me wrong,no attack...many fishermen catch gar, carp an bowfin and just throw them on the bank...

Some do, but from a trapper point of veiw it will help the raccoons and opossum get bigger and stay in the area to be trapped in the winter.
