I was just wondering what everyone uses to kill the weeds for a new food plot area? I have a new area that i am going to put a food plot in. I have already cleared some trees to get some light in, and i am ready to do a soil test, and also kill the weeds in the area, and plow it up. I have seen in another post in the deer hunting section that it was recomended to use glyphosate (Roundup) to kill the weeds. I was just wondering if the roundup would also affect the growth of the food plot, or if there are better sources, or what you guys use. I have seen the herbicide stuff on the whitetail institutes website, and it looked fairly decent, from what i read, but i havent used it. So Any info is helpful, this is my first attempt at a biggger food plot. Thanks!

Roundup is what I recommend. You can spray it and it will not have any effect on what you plant later on. For existing plots of clover, the Whitetail Institute Arrest will work just fine.

Mohican,
I seen your website, from a link on archeytalk about the foodplot wars 2006. There is alot of good information on there, What seeds or brand names do you plan on using this year? You will have to post a link to that site this year on Ohiosportsman, i would like to see your results again this year!

Round up will do the job but if you already have clover or something you may want to use something else so the clover you have established doesn't get killed off. There is some stuff similar to roundup called Glyphosate that you can get cheaper than round up.

Round up works for me. You can plant right after you use it. I usually hit the plot twice. Once, a month before planting and then once again right at the planting.
