I decided to go out and do some mushroom hunting yesterday morning at Ceasars Creek. Got up early and went to this spot where I have found some before. My buddy also use to turkey hunt there. Well I only found one shroom, but boy did I hear the birds. I had 2 birds not 150 yards from me double and triple gobbling. I mean these birds were hot. I could also hear more to my right of me gobbling. It was like I was in southern Ohio or something. I stopped hunting mushrooms for the longest time just to listen to them. They eventually moved off. Boy was that neat to here them that close. I drove around the lake to see if anyone was out scouting and just about every place where I knew there were birds at someone was pulled off except back where I heard them ones at. Probably because you have to walk about 3/4 mile to get to them. Although there is plenty of birds there, there is also plenty of hunters as well. If any of you plan on hunting CC opening day you better roost a bird and get there EARLY and hope nobody messes your hunt up. Also wear orange in and out. CC has probably the heaviest hunting pressure of all the state lands in Ohio because it is right next to a bunch of major cities, plus it's not real big. So be careful if any of you hunt there. I'm off to southern Ohio Sunday morning.

I got a private message just now from someone(not going to name names) about me downing Caesars Creek. For all of you that are hunting there I am not downing that place. There is a lot of birds there to be hunted, BUT for those of you that are going to be hunting there for the first time, be ready to see hunters. The place is small and FLAT. Mix that with a gang of hunters and safety can and will be a concern. When they first opened CC up nobody use to hunt it. My buddy use to go there and work birds just about every time he went. Now, there is no secrets there. People know where the birds are at there. Two years ago Dave Warner the game warden killed a bird there. I was talking to him at Spillway and he told me there was 3 other guys after that bird besides him. That's the way it is down there. If you get after a gobbling bird, chances are, someone else is hearing it too. On the other hand the birds they do kill down there are HUGE. Last year they killed one weighing 27pds!!! That's a whopper anywhere. I just wanted to inform any of you hunting there for the first time this year. I'm not trying to scare you from the place, but I am telling you the truth. It gets hunted and hunted hard. If you can kill a bird there consistently year after year my hats off to you. You're doing something right. If any of you have any Q's about the birds down there let me know. I don't hunt there that much, but I have hunted there in the past. I do my hunting in Southern Ohio. Good luck to all of you this spring and be safe no matter where you're hunting at.
