1992 Oneida Aero Force bow set at 62 lbs. I shoot easton XX78 2312 arrows at 28 1/2" long with 100gr. three blade Thunderheads. Shooting off a TM hunter rest with teflon tubes on the rest prongs with a Tru Glow Rite Sight. I have limb savers on the inner limbs. Cat whiskers on the power cables and on the main string along with a shure a peep in the string. I use a Fletch Hunter release with a wrist strap. I put my arrows in an Alpine quiver with a rubber quick disconnect system on the bow. Also a Tranquilizer with limb saver technology stablizer. This bow kills them, so I can grill them!!

First I have a five year old piece osage widdled into a five foot -six toothpick, with a twisted pile of sinew that has been coated with a sweet smelling honey wax. the arrow is the real "HONEY"though. With a stone of fire colored Flint Ridge chert thats a little smaller than a Fred Bear broadhead. The shaft is of chorse natural, cut from the damp lowlands. the well dried shaft is then barked and trued. The feathers are of a turkey that has offered it life to me in past years. it is split with a flint chip and tied to the shaft the same as the point with deer back strap sinew. Then the sinew gets a rubbing of the honey wax to protect it from the weather. The arrow rest is the web between my finger and thumb on my grip hand. the best part is the bows for free except the labor. But that something I really don't mind.

sound like an awsome set up. Had a hickory bow until last year. It snaped on me. Up set me verrrry much. This may sound a little stupid but do you do any rodevues(buckskinning)?

george tinkham

i got several old hickory bows ,some are in real good shape, very tempting to shoot...

05-01-2003, 10:16 AM
Ive snapped a few more bows than I'd like to remember. Enough to heat a cabin for a month. It just means I need to make another.

No ,I just Hunt- no shows, been there-done that.

george tinkham

been there done that when i pushed em to the limit...with radical setback...need a motorcycle helmet with full shield when yuh pull it back 28+ inches

Thunderflight
05-01-2003, 09:46 PM
My long bow is hickory. How long do they normally last?

TF

george tinkham
05-01-2003, 10:39 PM
they can last a looooooong time...according to how radical its made and how you care for it...my bows can easily go strung all day but its not often i'm out all day shootin or huntin...i don't leave em strung if i'm not usin them...thet need rest, especially hickory an whitewoods...

Beau Martin
05-02-2003, 12:23 PM
maybe that was my problem I shoot a 31" arrow. It must have been to much for it. Dont know but have been looking into another one. Not to sure what to get am realy just starting otu in this area. I would like to hunt with it but also do sme primitive type of shoots.

george tinkham
05-02-2003, 07:28 PM
i make mine long an wide from a 20+" around tree...so they are flat as a table, belly an back...they will easily take a 31" draw cause thats where i tiller em to...and my draw is a measly 28"...my bow is safe for my draw

george tinkham
05-05-2003, 09:50 PM
well tonight i took the 55# shakespeare an shot some cedars thru it thats spined bout right for it...the smaller feathers5" and the wood shafts are much quieter...arrahs an bow...big difference.i am going to try and go down a diameter size on alum. to see if this will will help bow noise a lil...this is to be my elk bow...i will use old freddy bears glue on with wood arrahs ansd both old an new type freddy bear screw in with alum. will take wood and alum. huntin in colo. they both group with each other the same...i have heard the high altitude can effect wood arrahs...if this is no problem i will use wood

well not long i will have a new one to set up ,an i mean a real set up.i have just finished the back on a black cherry stave, split from a 16 " log.it will be a straight handle bow and will bend thru the handle.prolly be from 54" to 60 length.40-50#.next is to draw the design on the back an rough it out to near finished diminsions.hack some wood from the belly and see what we come up with.a shooter or a restraunt wall hanger.match some of my cedars to it hopefully an see how hard it shoots.
