How many decoys should you set up at one time, and how many should be jakes and if you set up any gobblers should there only be one .Does it matter how many hens decoys you set out,can you set out to many???

I have one jake and one hen. I set them up with the hen further out and the jake abit closer. I try to set up so they are angled toward my poistion. Sometimes I use a second hen, but it was attacked by a coyote and taken. The gobbler coming in will try to provoke the jake into leaving or fighting. He will walk toward the jake which is closer to your poistion and sets up the shot you need. Some people doing it differently. This is the way I do it.

The club that I hunt does not have many big fields. Mainly just foodplots we plant so I have only been carrying one hen decoy. I use it in the foodplots or in the woods. The property I hunt in Ohio consist of large hay fields. I will use two hens and a jake. I put the two hens out a bit and the jake just off to the left (I am right handed). This set up worked well last year as I shot a 21 lb bird with just under 1 inch spurs. He came right into the jake and I did not have to move a muscle to the bead on him.

i have always used just a jake an hen, especially with the bow an arrah...usin somethin like a blind really tilts the scales in your favor no matter what you use. those turks don't miss anything

I had a jake on hen last year and I had 4 toms come within seeing distance and none went after the jake...they just moved off to where I couldn't shoot them.

ok thanks guys but can you put out like 10 or 15 hen decoys or does to many hurt you or does it help you, kinda like duck decoy setup or should you just settle for one or two hens with one jake like most of you have described.

It all matters about the birds in your area. If you are hunting 3 year old and older birds a jake and hen can be deadly. If the area you hunt in holds a lot of jakes and 2 years old birds then a hen or two would be best because if another jake or 2 year old bird sees another "gobbler" he might shy away since he has been whipped before. last year I had a 3+ year old bird run to my jake and hen decoy. He went to the jake first. I shot him. He weighed 21lb 10" beard 1-1/4" hooks. A jake and hen decoy can be deadly on old birds.

I have never saw a flock of 10 to 15 turkeys in the spring. I usually see smaller groups of two or three hens. That many decoys might appear unnatural. Besides thats a lot of decoys to carry into the woods and does not make it easy to set up and take down if you have to relocate.

Two hens and a jake seem to work just fine especially while bowhunting field edges. Save your money for a new choke tube and a box of #5's if you're packin a shotgun......TF

I use two hens and a jake.
Four my Pope and Young Jake I had the jake facing my blind about 15 yards out. I placed the two hens facing the jake ten yards out.
