Anyone tried the new Optima batteries? Are they worth the money?
Any advice would be appreciated.

We have tried several of them on the military equipment at the shop I work at. Depending on your application, they can be of some benefit. However, we have noticed that they suffer also from lack of use. I have seen them used on the "civilian world" in race cars and as boat batteries, where they performed flawlessly. In my humble and mostly worhtless opinion they are a toss up; the quality of standard sealed batteries is almos as good as Optima's. Good luck and let us know how it/they work for you.

I swear by the WalMart Maxx batteries, with a 18 month free replacement I feel you can beat them. Let me also state that they have never let me down and hold a charge a long time, in my little 2 man boat I can troll approximately 18 to 20 miles and still have juice left in them.
I have a Coleman Crawdad rigged with 2 of them and powered with a Minn Kota 24v 70lb thrust motor. Most folks say wow when they see me scooting across the lake in that thing.

To me they work great never had a problem them i use these in my big lake boat when i'm running 4 electric riggers and spreader lights for and hour or so, and they held up well. To me depending on the application of the use, I wouldnt use a low grade battery you never know what will happen 10-15 miles off shore.... But the Optimas are quite pricey but you never have to worry about them just keep them charged and you will be all set.....

I used to work for Sams Club, and i woked in the Tire and Battery section. We would ALWAYS try to talk people away from them. They say they have twice the life, but ya still get the same 1-2 year warrenty as you would with a normal battery...just my opinion. :D
