I was shooting pool leagues in Bowling Green tonight when my mom called me to let me know that my nephew Tbonehunter90 (Tyler) had shot himself with his arrow. Apparently earlier in the day he shot a hole in one arrow with another. He then put them both back in his quiver. I guess he forgot and went to shhot it tonight and it exploded in through his hand. I took pictures of him and his hand in the ER. He was very fortunate that it wasn't anymore serious. There was pictures posted in a older thread of a guys with a carbon arrow threough his hand that it resembled. I'll post pics tomorrow. He did seem to be in good spirits, but he was hopped up on Morphine. There were preparing him for surgery when we left, I'll keep everybody up on his progress in the morning.

I hate to hear that. Hopefully he is o.k. I am going to assume he was shoooting carbons?? The morphine only keeps the pain at bay for so long. Well wishes from Swantucky

I remember the photo you're referring to. That is nasty. It worries me. I hope he recovers just fine.
Let us know what brand he shoots if you could.

Got an update. He went in to surgery at 11 pm and wasn't out till 2am. He severed the bone in his finger a few ligaments. He'll have to do some therapy for awhile. He was fortunate to not have done anymore nerve damage. I just talked to him and he seems OK. I posted pics in the Gallery if someone wants to attach them to this thread.

If you look closely I think you might be able to make out the brand. Actually, it wasn't a manufacturer error, it was a mental lapse. He forgot that he put the broken arrown back in his quiver. He was supposed to go to the highschool tournament in Columbus this weekend too. He was actually joking enough to say he'd see if he could take his Xbow down there.

Some people put a number on the fletch. If a arrow is damaged; remember what the number is. When you get the next arrow to shoot check the number. This works if you don't have a quiver where the damaged arrow can be separated from the other.

Or you could just get rid of it away right when u know it's damaged so you dont have to remember things, because i know im terrible at remembering things. :mischeif:

Talked to Tyler today. He was released at 1 pm this afternoon. His hand is in a large soft cast with a bunch of stitches, he wasn't sure how many. He was still a little drugged up, I guess he's on Percocet for the pain. He is considering aluminum arrows though.

I seen the same thing at Wapak Archery's Pro Shop, along I-75 when the business was still open. A guy was out back shooting in the broadhead pit and he had failed to check his arrows each time after shooting. One broadhead blade had cut one of the shafts, didn't know it and it exploded into his hand on the next shot. :coco:
The odd thing was everyone's reaction when he came into the building looking for help. It was just like all the Red Cross videos that I had been trained with and nobody seemed to know what to do. :dizzy:
I felt very fortunate to have had the training, was able to help the stop the bleeding, had someone get a rescue squad called, gave directions for someone to stand out by the lane to attract/direct the rescue and comfort the poor guy until they arrived. :)
He passed along many thanks later, but that's what the training is for and I sought no gratitude. I was just glad to be there when it counted. He fully recovered and I was glad to hear of that report.
Good hunting, Bowhunter57

Glad to hear your nephew fully recovered. I don't like aluminum arrows because they can bend easily while trying to pull them out of a target.

im glad he has recovered fully and is shooting again
i love alum more durable than carbon lighter than wood less to worry about. i bought some (6) carbon express select termenators i didnt like how they shot and after the second one i shot hit stake in my mckinzie target and splintered i threw it away and put the rest on my self and have not shot carbon sence.
i used to shoot easton jazz on everything they were easy to find they where white and blueish purple. until they stopped making them
so i shoot easton camo hunters now no complents not as easy to find in the dirt after a shot on a deer but they work
i agree completly about tossing damaged arrows immediately not worth the risk

T-bones back to shooting Carbons. I believe he shoots the same as me, X-Weave 200 pro's. His Dad is shooting the Cobalt aluminum. Those arrows are very nice and consistent as heck. If I ever switch to aluminum those will be the first ones I try.

Absolutely. I'm very technical when checking my arrows after evry shot now. If my arrow is touching someone elses at the target I'll bend it all around and check for cracks. Finally got back on the 3-D course today. It wasn't pretty. Shot a 250 from the hunters stakes after taking a couple months off:nono:

That's exactly what I do when I pull them from the target. I haven't busted any yet, but my other nephew flexed his and it cracked badly, so it does work
