Yesterday evening I snuck out of work in an attempt to ambush a few of the remaining Al Queda Saddam loyalist turkey's left at Platchacola WMA (South Carolina).
I was about to call it quits around 6:00 pm when I heard a few hens clucking behind my blind. The hen's never came in, but around 6:45 pm I heard a semi large bird fly up and land in the tree right above my blind. It sounded too small to be a turkey so I decided to call it quits and head home.
Suddenly I heard one wing flap and this loud thud in my decoys..... I looked up and saw a big bird on top of one of my hen decoys.... At first I thought it was a hen, but after a minute or two it got up drop the decoy and flew off....
The bird that landed above me wasn't a turkey. It was a BIG hawk..... It had attacked one of my decoys thinking it would be an easy meal.... I didn't know hawks like foam...8*)
I actually was surprised that a hawk would go after an animal that size though....
Anyway,,,, I thought it was pretty cool and made a slow day into an interesting one...8*)
