I've been dreaming about doing a bit of food plotting, but then I realized that the woods I hunt in are surrounded my fields that are owned by 3 different guys so there is always a good crop rotation. But...

What kind of equipment do you guys use? I know that Cabela's sells a lot of little ATV implements, there's always good 'ole John Deere, and I know a few guys probably haul a disc behind a Ranger :).

I think that if I was food plotting I'd got with a tractor, it just seems like that'd be the best way.

Yes tractors are the best. They have weight and are geared for power. The others are not. Don't be fooled by these quad adds and their equipment. Most commercials show the quad working up ground in ground that is already worked up.

A tractor is the way to go.

I'd say tractors are easier to maintain as well.

Tractor is definately the way to do plots, you ever tried workin up unbroken ground with 4-wheeler, it usually takes a few passes...

Yup,
It takes awhile, but no tractor, no options.

A buddy of mine has a kubato RTV its like one of them rangers and it has a dump bed on it, also is 4 wheel drive. We used it last year to clear out and disc up a acre of ground, it worked real good for us. Hell we even dragged some trees up a slight hill that I know no 4 wheeler could pull. The trees were around 14" or so in diamater and probably 25' long, with no problem. I know its not a tractor but it worked great for us.

We have 2 tractors, but you can't get them to my plot. So I have no choice but to use my 4-wheeler. It does a good job on the ridge top soil that is pretty fine to begin with. I'm looking to pickup a harrow at one of the shows over the next month. A harrow would be the ticket for what I am doing, and I know my 4-wheeler would have no problem pulling it around.
