Anyone going out this weekend? I am going to be scouting in full force. It suppose to be nice and no rain. The birds should gobble good. I'm taking my dad along with me Sat. He wants to hear some birds gobble. He should get his ears full. I'll probably take him to my little "honey hole" and let him listen to 6-8 birds gobble on the same ridge they always roost on. I've scouted all five farms I hunt on in the mornings all ready. So I know pretty well their roost spots and stuff. Now I just have to listen, watch, and make sure they don't change their patterns too much. I have a few fields that I need to watch later in the mornings, so I'll probably do that Sat as well. I just like hearing them gobble;) Too me it's worth the hour drive to listen to them every weekend.

i should be in athens...listenin to turks early than a big auction
Been looking around the office grounds here in New Albany. Lots of turkey, deer, and pheasants. Only problem, can't hunt it. It is fun to look anyway. Had a couple massive bucks hanging around here. Been hunting for sheds, but have not found any yet.

I suppose that would be a good excuse but they are so thick this year that scouting is not necessary in my area. I'll let the other fools stomp around then I'll put 'em to bed the night before and see what happens openin' morning! I'm REAL good at callin' in hunters...REAL good! I just kinda keep my eyes open to see where they are feeding during the day, then I'll drive out to my favorite spot and hoot a few times at dusk just to make sure they're still roosting in the same area. All the scouting in the world gets shoit when the first moron comes bumbling into the woods honkin' on calls, and making more noise than a herd of elephants. Guess I just don't bother bacause I can walk in the woods any time. If I take the dog, it's even more fun!

I hear ya stacker. I can see why scouting on state or private land that gets hunted to death is about useless when the birds get spooked day in, day out. I scout a lot because the farms I hunt on don't get hunted by a bunch of people. So they usually stick to a pattern. If I hunted state land I probably wouldn't scout as much as I am doing now. Out of the five farms I hunt on, only one that I know of gets hunted by someone else, and he's a weekend warrior. So when I hunt that particular farm I hunt during the week to avoid him. I'm glad someone is having luck at getting them to gobble at night. I can't buy a gobble at dusk:confused: The past two years I have tried and they just won't gobble for me. I know they're there, but they just won't gobble. It's not that their pressured either. I try crow calls and owl calls. I can get them to gobble in the morning on the roost, but at night is a different story.

Just got back from scouting. Between two farms, I heard right at 5 birds. One farm I heard 3 and the other I heard 2. There's more than that using these farms, but the freezing temps this morning I think had some of them tight lipped. Also saw two huge gobblers strutting in a field I have permission to hunt. Bring on the 28th!!
