For those of you who are coming to the tournament I have A question..We are kicking around the idea of getting a dumpster to get rid of the fish..What we need is for each man to put a little money maybe $5 each..Is this something that we should put into motion or do you just want to get rid of them yourself like we did last year??This can not be just a few guys say yes and a few say no..It needs to be all or nothing..Let us know here in the next few days so we can get it all togather...Thanks

It does not really matter to me i can get rid of them myself or a dumpster which ever i will go with the majority on this one.

Maybe $5 bucks per team not per person

Well 'j'.....what do you propse we do with a few THOUSAND lbs. of dead carp that have been laying in fish barrels in 80 degree+ weather for two days? I don't think they would be edible after sitting in these conditions.

I'm sure we're all open to suggestions though...........how hungry are YOU?

george tinkham
04-25-2003, 06:23 AM
i must admit i hope they are not sitting near my neiborhood...people don't take kinly to flies and stink...remember buckeye egg...they must be taken care of before they smell

How wastefull can you be? The mere point that you don't have anything better than to throw them out should clue you into what you should do.

I was allways taught take all you want but eat all you take.

Don't waste fish.

I don't exaclty think highly of bowfishing, you can do what you want, just put it to good use. Once somethings in a landfill, its there for a LONG time. Not like a garden where air and water get to it, a land fill gets sealed up like a tomb.

I'd rather you disperse these fish in a field, or drive around and just throw them out the back, heck take the kids and make it fun. You do the driving and let them throw the fish out.

NO DOUBT THIS IS A TOUGH ISSUE even with hunters/fishers and i must admit i have a tough time with waste...i love shootin em but waste leaves me with a bad taste.some seem to almost glorify the waste and that bothers me

What a great idea.......the first annual 'Buckeye Classic' Carp Throwing Tournament! We could all get lit up after the shoot, load up in pickups and cruise the suburbs tossing carp to and fro! Mailboxes are 10 points......cars 5 points......dogs are worth....well, we'll figure it all out.

But seriously, the dumpster is probably the most time/cost/effort effective way to go about this. It would be nice if someone would eat or use the carp for something.

i think a better idea would be to have a best carp recipe contest and throw a free fish fry for the whole community.

I'm sure a local farmer would not mind dumping them in his fields but just finding that one farmer ,but then you have the cost of transporting them to the field, but to some people in there eyes you could not do anything right with them they will see the negative side of it no matter how you dispose of the fish.

Dumpster sounds good to me then
But seriously, the dumpster is probably the most time/cost/effort effective

It's so funny. The guys of the tournament ask a question about using a dumpter or taking the fish and getting rid of them there self. Very simple. You so called carp anglers , always and I mean always jump on the band wagon to cry , whine and what ever you call it about the carp. You guys ought to go to a National bowfishing tournament. They fill 8-10 semi-load size dumpster with all the carp and gar. They have to be loaded with a front end loader. What if bowfisherman started showing up at your carp ins, would you let them weigh in like the rest of the anglers? I think not. If you have a problem with it fine. But we all heard it in the bowfish post on a this forum. If you don't like the bowfishing sport , Please say out of the bowfishing forums.
This is just my opinion and not directed toward anyone. I will step off the soap box now. Thank you for your support in bowfishing.

like i said from the start i,m for a dumpster, they will rot in a landfill, thats better than having a fish toss, down the back roads and getting nailed by the man...

Deperado,

I just checked out the "bow fishing forum" to see what bucktail was so up in arms about. In your post about not being directed to anyone and then i read the post in sound off about you staying out of coldwater forums becasue you think its stupid or something, don't quote me on that but it was something to that affect.

Sounded like you were talking to me about staying out, what do you think?

I'll come to the forum whenever i choose too, if you don't like it, ban me out of it untill then......................deal with it.

Oh and that was directed at you.

The site is suppose to be a family oriented site, you guys talking about killing for sport doen't make the site or people who hunt/fish look to good.

LOL...Thats funny. jblocker , you need to get over it. It seems to me that everything around you going on, such as killing groundhogs and shooting fish. They have been around for a very long time and it seems to everyone here you and bucktail just want to cry and whine about things you don't like. People here enjoy talking about what they like to do. Since you kids keep crying about it, it just gets the thread closed. Please stop it. We all hear you, now move on!!

Carpwarrior,

As simply stated before the only reason i came is to see what was going on. No personal attacks or anything, you think i could get away with that? I think i would have met the same fate the other guy.

Desperateado,

Its not that the actual "sport" of doing it that i'm even talking about, just thats its plain wastefull to kill for no reason. But what can i say we're all just animals huh? I was hoping to appeal to some of the more reasonable people on the board. Without a doubt it IS wastefull to kill for no reason besides the thrill or jollies you get from it. If you were killing ground hogs or carp for something actually usefull like food or the fur to do something with, i'd have absolutely no problem. I haven't gotten any posts closed, I personally think you close the threads that aren't going the way you think they should. You might be afraid that people reading such reports might get a bit turned off to this boards or sport, i don't know what going through your head. Maybe the next kill?

For what it is worth, probably not much, but I believe pigs would
make short work of carp. No slur intended agaist those who
eat carp, pigs would eat lobster too, I just know they eat fish.
They eat the WHOLE fish, head, bones and all.

LOL...You guys make me laugh. I will admit and so will lots of hunters like myself. The hunt and the KILL is thrilling. I bowfish because I enjoy it. I don't eat the fish, which is true. But they do go to good use. Feeds raccoons, hogs, opossums, and evn helps gardens so you can go to the store and get your corn , tomatos..etc.. Ground hogs cause damage to property and I do shoot them and do the same thing vvarmiter does with his. It feeds the ares birds and opossums. After a few nights it is all gone. It sound to me and several people that have contacted me , Bucktail and you seem to be peta member from your posts you make about protecting animals. People have been doing this for several years and you are just now worried about it. Open your eyes. If you think about it. There are more salmon killing thereself going up streams and laying in the streams to rot every year then the amount of carp killed by bowfisherman. The carp will never be wiped out!! We can shoot them by the 100's everyday and not even make a dent in them.
