Scientists expect botulism outbreak to resume
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Visitors to the Lake Erie shoreline can expect to find more dead birds and fish this summer as an outbreak of avian botulism stretches into its fourth year.
Also note in article:
The thought is that zebra and quagga mussels can serve to both concentrate the toxin found in decaying material on the lake floor as well as add to the decaying material.
The round gobies feast on the contaminated mussels, spreading the poison through the food chain. (more)
