without a trigger device, even if it did work you would have to watch hours of video just to see if anything went by. pretty interesting idea though if you could maybe hook up a sensor to it somehow.

It would require a battery operated DVR of some type. That’s all I can find that has AV inputs and is battery operated. Most of them have a camera on them driving up the price to around $400. Plus you'll need a PixController style controller to turn it all on and off at the right time. $100'ish Plus you'll need to set a controller to only run for like 30 sec at a time so as not to fill up the DVR. It would be more trouble and cash than just buying a IR camera like CuddeBack that takes stills and Small video.

You can build you're own regular scouting camera with a homebrew system if you find a camera on ebay (sony DSC P31 $60) and buy a PixController ($79). Plus a few other things.

Pix also makes controller for camcorders too. Some of them will use IR at night and regular during the day like the older Sony HI8 (ebay 150 - 200) and a PixController for $121. Check out their website and look around.

I would definatly look at building your own but I wouldn't go trying to reinvent the wheel. The market is pretty much cornered in this area. Just look around online like above and purchase the kit / camera.
