hey guys i was just wondering what kinds of treestands you all use and why i am currently using a climbing stand but thinking of changing over to a fixed position stand due to fact that i hate setting it up in the dark and packing it miles back in the hills every time i go hunting

I use all of the types you have listed. So I cannot pick just one to vote

When I am not hunting on the ground I am hunting out of my climber. I have a ladder stand that is ok but lacks comfort and I have fixed position stands as well. These stands are ok but just dont compare to benefits of a climber.

you should have put all of the above...i used to have about 40 but sold bout 10...i now have 1 climber,2 ladder stands and at least 20 fixed...not one screaming eagle!!!i make my fixed stands and the cheapies i buy have proved quiet and safe enough to use in bout 30 yrs. i used em...my climber is a high dollar stand and i won't go cheap with a climber...funny thing is i hunt mostly from the ground now, sometimes right under my stand...

I have the api grandslam climber and love this stand, love the movability,Fixed stands are great to just carry in your hunting gear and you are all set to go up in your stand but most of the fixed stands just are not as comfortable as the climbers today.

I've got an API grand slam supreme. It is a great stand that is very quite, comfortable and easy to set up.

I also use hang on stands too.

I have to agree with George (aka: BV) that you get what you pay for with self climbers. The first self climber I had was a cheap stand I bought at swappers day. It was a major pain in the butt and very uncomfortable. I sold it and bought an API GSS.

I think you can get away with cheaper hang on stands though. I'm sure the expensive stands are great, but I'd loose sleep while worrying if some was going to steal it.

Sportsmansguide.com usually has good deals on hang on stands.

yeah I have a several climbers, lone wolf, myles keller, tree lounge, as well as fixed stands like api hang on stands ( you'll heard API is going out of business, the parent company filed for bancruptcy). I also have a ground blind. you have to be able to accommodate a variety of situations in order to have the best possible chance for success and there is not one single stand/blind that will do that.

i have a summit climber,i prefer the fixed stands...quieter,faster mainly and i used to have lots of em set up,ready to go...i use the climber if i see a deer from my fixed stand using an area where i have no stands...its really a lot of work stand hunting

If I was going to buy another climber it would be a Summit Viper.

API stands are great, but the viper is really easy to set up and VERY light.

To bad about API going bankrupt. I don't know the whole story, but I'd be willing to bet that if plaintif had been wearing a safety harness then he'd be ok and API would still be in business.

Gotta have the climber for the versitility. Cant beat em. Get to your spot and it takes 5 minutes tops to be up in the tree 25ft.

I do the majority of my huntin in the dirt. When I do go to the air I use my lone wofl sticks and a LW fixed stand. I also use a treesuit. If you aint seen one of these things go to www.treesuit.com and check it out. It is the real deal. Didnt use it last year cause I wanted to take a deer on the ground with the longbow but will be practicing out of it this year and hunting out of it. Safe, compact and light. I use the sticks and a couple screw in steps with it. a friend of mine who is a welder is rigging up something to attatch to the top stick I can use to stand on when using the suit. could be the cats meeeooww.

I have been using fixed stands and ground blinds. Never tried a climber, but I need to look into them to try them out.

The Tree Suit would be awesome for hunting back in the swamp at the refuge.... I'd have to use strap on steps, but I'd bet it would work great.

My primary stand is a Loggy Climber but I also use a Loggy hang-on-lite for some spots.

My main stand is an Ol' Man Vision (climber). I have a few other chain-on stands that I occasionally use. Although the climber is very comfortable to hunt out of, it is getting to be a pain to haul up those hills down in Hocking Co. ... I may have to get a few more cheap chain-on's to use next season :D ...steveOh

I just took down an couple home made tree stands.

Being the cheap Busturd that I am I used to make them for about $15.00.

I'm still cheap, but I just have the time to make new ones plus I can buy a cheap hang on for around $30.00. The hang on is ALOT easier to hang and remove....

The main thing I wanted back was my tree steps. They may only cost $2.00 each, but times that by twenty and that's $40.00....

I own a bunch of screw in steps. I need to get some strap on tree steps for hunting the refuge (illegal to use screw in steps on it).

When I use a lock on (hang on) stand I have been using a climbing stick. I got a couple from Bass PRO for $29 last fall. They were ok, but were heavy and a hassle to carry in. I bought a Grim Reaper climb stick. Its all aluminum and the steps slid in. It also has a folding tree saw at the end. Its telescoping/retractable so its on piece. Comes with a carrying strap and is pretty light. It was something like $150, so its not cheap. I really like it better than everything else I saw. The retractable concept is difinitely worth the extra money if you plan on carrying a climbing stick in very far.

I've got an API Grand Slam Supreme Magnum climber and love it. I've got a quite a few cheap hang-on stands that I use too. I just can't pass up chain-on stands in January when all the stores like Meijer and Walmart have them on clearance for about $18. You can never have enough stands out.

Summit Cobra climber for me. It's a nice stand, but since I purchased it, they have come out with better models.

I also use lock on stands.

I'm with george on this one "All of the above".......

Dick's Sporting Goods has a good sale on Ladders & Climbers right now for fathers day!

TF, I seem to miss those good Walmart closeouts too....we might have to start recruiting george to buy some of them for us next January!
