This year we planted biologic green patch plus, and the deer are hitting it now but not very much early. Also had clover plus planted the deer pounded it over the summer.

But the best for us so far has been Buck Forage Oats....

I have a close friend who works for Hunter's Specialties. They just recently got into the business but their seed and Vita-Rack has worked well for us.

I had Biologic Clover plus in for 3 years. The deer hit it good in the summer and early fall, then again once snow covered the ground. The weeds took it over too bad this summer, so I killed everything off and planted winter rye. I have only seen a couple deer in the rye so far. I think if we ever get snow the deer will hit it better. I'm not sure what I'm going to plant this year, maybe this thread will give me the answer.

You can't beat Whitetail Institute in terms of customer service. There product grew well for me, but what sold me was their customer service. I spoke with a consultant who addressed my specific questions and helped me plant the best and most effective plot I could for my area.

I mentioned this in an earlier thread...The guys at Biologic are too big for their panties. They got the Drurys using "Biologic" every other word, so they could care less about the small guy. They lost my soil sample and when I contacted them about it I expressed my displeasure and my readiness to use someone elses product and they blew me off again. So f'em.

I would bet that if you put a field of BFO next to a field of winter Rye, you will not see a difference in the deer that are going into that field. Now nutrition wise, I don't know if one claims to have more goods than the other, but rye is a heck of a lot cheaper.

I have planted both, just because I wanted to see what the hype was about...I wasn't impressed at all. They both grew, they both got ate up, and they both were plowed under the next year....

Other.

They really like the Silver Queen normally, but this year it was the Lancelot that took the attraction prize.

I'm guessing you are talking sweet corn...do the deer still hit the sweet corn after the kernals shrivel up? I guess we never had that much left over, and all the stalks we have get cut up into fodder for the cows, so there is never anything like this left over by deer season on any place I've ever hunted...

With soil test and proper preparation: Biologic Full draw and Maximum,Evolved Habitats prograze, Buck Forage Oats, and my local co-op clover seed have all worked fantastic. If I could only have one it would probably be the clover mix. It has lasted four years and is still going strong. The Full Draw is probably my favorite for a long term annual. It seems to last for several months and now they are digging the turnips up and eating them. The prograze is a great kill plot. Once it freezes and gets sweet they will have it mowed down in about a week. but when it's done it's done. The BFO has worked very good as well and lasts a long time.

Hoss,

Deer eat sweet corn anytime provided that is..well, there. Optimally it's great when it is "in season" like late summer, which is not ideal for hunting. BUT, it is possible if you play around with the see (I reccoomend Rupps) for you to have corn stretching to frost and beyond. Also, local bees (ie, your own hives) help. Our farm is on the edge of town and it is jam packed with deer, although it's corn, not woods...but, the woods off the property is loaded.

I have been putting food plots in for 25 years at least...I started out
doing only a few plots amounting to only a few acre's, but for the last 10
years I am doing a total of 30 acre's...15 of those acre's are planted into
field corn...It is a good winter food source for all wildlife...I walk into those
fields that were planted into corn and You will witness the corn is all gone...
I also put in alfalfa and when drilling it I plant oats with it as a cover
crop...Alfalfa will load You up with deer, turkeys, and with maintenance will
last for 5 years or so...I also plant several rows of corn along the roadwato serve as a blocker to the alfalfa field, otherwise poachers will be watching
Your fields...Another one of My plantings I use a mix formulated by a friend
who specializes in blending for Michigans DNR...It contains soybean, sunflower, Japanese millet, sorgum, and buckwheat...and really holds the
turkeys near....Very importantly, test Your soil to get the proper nutrients
into Your soil, You will benefit by a great crop.... Magnum

I may be changing my mind about North American Whitetail Institute...I sent them an email over 3 weeks ago with no response. These companies really act like they want to help you, when in all actuality they just want you to buy their product and then the hell with you. Customer service is nonexistent in our society.
