Feb 3rd is the first annual Holmes County Sportsman Show. It will be held at Keim Lumber in Charm Ohio. This is the first year for the show, and I guess an Amishman shot a (get this) 295+ green score buck!!! Now boys and girls thats a hog stud daddy of a deer. It will be there, for the first time, on display. There will be seminars on things and vendors, and door prizes, and lots of fun. Just wondering if any one from here will be attending. A good dinner or lunch at Homestead accross the road from Keim is enough to get me to go!!!:coolgleamA: Hope to see yall there!!!!

Sycamore-
I believe that buck to be the one shot in Adams county opening day of archery.
Also, Keim Lumber just finished up their re-modeling. The article in our local paper made the building look impressive.
Ed,
Too far away to say if I'll be able to go. My wife's b-day is February 2nd. I will try and go for sure. If she comes up here from Columbus I should be available to go. We can go out for her birthday Friday or Saturday night. I'll she what she wants to do.

"Celebrity Guests: Greg Miller and Stan Potts"
I wonder if they'll be speaking or anything.

County-
If it was shot by an Amishman and green scored 295+ then thats probably it. They say this will be the first time it will be on display. What is so bad about Greg Miller and Stan Potts?? I am not a huge Greg Miller fan, but Stan Potts seems to be a down-to-earth-guy. I have never meet them, just wondering if you know somthing I dont. But just guessing, I figure they are a little big-headed being big time TV stars. I meet Alex Rutlidge at the D+T Expo and he could not have been nicer. He's a stand up kind of guy.

You must have misunderstood my post. I'm a fan of Greg & Stan. On that link it lists Greg and Stan as celebrity guests, but there's nothing about them speaking on a particular subject. I just wonder if they will be speaking much. I'd like to learn something.
I mentioned, "wear boots and watch your step" in reference to the number of buggies and horse poo that may be around.

HA!! I dropped the ball on that one, I read it as Greg and Stan where profesional "BS'rs" not Amish Buggy Pollution!!! Thats funny!!!
I dont think they are getting the word out about this show very much. So I dont know what to expect, all I know is my butt will be at Homestead across the road eating lunch or dinner before I go home. I swear they use crack cocain as their special ingredient. I have never had better food in all my life. That alone is well worth the trip. :chicken:

I should find out before long if I'll be able to go. I sure hope so.

I'm trying to convince my wife to come up to the area for her birthday. I didn't tell her why exactly, other than that would be a good weekend. (We "live" in Columbus, but I'm up north all week for business) We'll see.

I'll be there with Deerfire, although I won't wear a T-shirt with his deers picture on it no matter what he offers to pay me:mischeif: I actually like Stan Potts and Greg Miller. I have to like Greg, he was a former concrete worker like myself, gives a blue collar guy like me someone to admire for doing what he wants to do.

I got to thinkin about this Amish Lucky Buck, green score of 295+. That seems almost too big to be true. How much did the Beatty Buck score??

Beatty was 304 6/8".

The show is the weekend of my wife's birthday and she wants to stay in Columbus for her birthday. I tolder her we could do whatever she wanted to do. I had thought she would come up to Wooster that weekend so she could see her parents, but her parents are going to be out of town.
There's just too few weekends.

Just tell her that to celebrate her birthday you are going to take her someplace special and then come up here to the show. Sounds good to me. ;)

Ed,
LOL I would like to. I drive enough the way it is. I'm going to be in Youngstown that Friday then drive to Columbus Friday evening. I would have a hard time driving back up here Saturday morning.
I'm bummed out. I know my dad is going to this even however.
I have a wedding the weekend of the Deer & Turkey Expo too. I hoping I can work something out there. I never made it to Cabelas this winter either.

88,
Hopefully you understand that this is the first time they've held the event? It's hard predict the number of people that will show up. You can't have the whole place to yourself you know. Geez. There are going to be hickups the first of any large event such as this and the organizers I'm sure will make any changes necessary to keep bringing people back. If you don't want to return, than don't.
Sounds like Holmes County should be pretty happy. Part of reason this event was created was to get more tourists to visit the county during the winter. The county relies heavily on tourism and most of that is during the summer.

I'm with ya 88, we went down today for about an hour and it was so packed you couldn't move. I did see the Amish buck, although it was huge I wasn't that impressed with the taxidermy job that was done on it... Something just looked funky about it...I probably won't go back again though, just too many people for all the more there was to see. I did see Greg Miller and Stan Potts, I didn't stop just saw them outa the corner of my eye...

We did make a day of it though. The old lady and her parents came along with Deerfire and I and we hit a bunch of the local towns and spent a truckload today on spices and cheeses and meats. Had a nice lunch at the Der Dutchman. Got into some nice windy snow whiteout conditions on the way home too. Deerfire took a pic of his buck to get autographed by Stan and Greg but that didn't happen, we never even saw them.

If they are going to keep this event going they are going to have to find a better location with a bigger exhibit hall and a better parking/shuttle system. There just isn't enough room in Charm for the type crowd that they had.

Hey ya'll! The Holmes County show was crazy! The afternoon wasn't bad. The morning was a nuts though.
I heard the show is going to be two days next year. They are looking for a bigger location. Since it was a first-time thing, I am sure they did not know what to expect. I guess it's better to have too many than too little for your first year.
Greg and Stan are funny guys. They said the want to come back next year and do a seminar. That should be real cool. :yikes:

If you had read the article in link I have above it says they would like to have it as two days next year.
