I went scouting Wed morning and I must say, they gobbled great! I scouted two farms early that I have permission to hunt. One of them I never scouted before. The first farm I went to I have been hunting now for about 3 years. It's not big, but it holds the most birds out of all of the places I hunt. I heard 7-8 birds sound off on the same point of the ridge, right where they were at last year. I bet they gobbled 50-75 times not 150 yards away. It was something to hear. Then I went up the road to another farm I hunt on. I drove up to the edge of the field and got out and listened. I heard 3-4 birds gobble on the first ridge back from the field, which is probably about 150-200 yards. They gobbled quite a bit as well. While they was still on the roost I walked over the left corner of the field where I have been seeing some birds at. I saw tons of sign. Feathers and droppings were everywhere. I also found a good spot to set up on the edge of the field. I'm heading back down in the morning to scout another farm I have yet to scout. The highs suppose to be around 60 with lows in the high 30's, so I don't know if they will gobble as good as they did Wed, but they should gobble a little.

The best time IMO is the third week of April (in SC). The majority of the hens have been bred and the tom's are hot looking for honeys.

I went this morning to my dad's place. I heard 3 different birds there gobble. Even with the chilly weather and overcast skies they still gobbled fairly well.

The tom's have been howling in the afternoons down here....

In the morning you might hear a gobble when they come off roost, but that's it. Kinda weird this year.....

I remember there was a discussion before about afternoon turkey hunting, and I wondered if anything came of it. As far as I know we are only allowed to hunt in the mornings right? Till noon correct?

The cut off time here in Ohio is noon. Why? I have no frickin idea. It makes me sick though because right when we have to quit is one of the best times to strike a willing tom. Plus having all day hunting would even out the hunting pressure instead of everyone hunting in the mornings. BUT, if you know where the birds roost at it would be very easy to shoot one right before he flies up for the night, and the state knows this as well. I don't see why they couldn't let us hunt till atleast 3-4pm.

10point, thank you for confirming what i thought and clearing up the reasons why they don't allow hunting all day.
