For those fo you who know the Wayne, are there places you are allowed to camp along the ATV trails? I have never been down there and I have been trying to talk my dad into lettin me take is grizzly down and do some camping. I was hoping to pack up his quad (it has a seat on the back with storage area), take the fiance and spend a week down there. I think it would be cool to drive around a while then set up camp along the trail in the woods somewhere. Input appreciated, thanks!:)

First thing first, the Wayne trails are closed until April 15th. They close them down during the winter.

Second, as far as I know, you can camp anywhere in the Wayne that you would like to. You will see several people camped in the parking areas during riding season and hunting season. During hunting season, I have seen people camped in about every flat spot near a road.

With that said, I wouldn't recommend camping right near the trails during riding season. The trails get a lot of use and if someone sees your gear while you are out riding, you may not own it anymore. In addition, if you pull your quad off the trails very far in order to camp, the rangers could write you a ticket for riding off trail.

Be mindful of the fire hazard during the time that you are camping. I am not sure, but I think they restrict campfires during times of high fire danger. Also keep in mind the trail rules. You will need to have a Wayne trail pass to ride.

Awesome, thanks mudman. Yea, I knew they were closed until April, and I know about the permits too. I just wasn't sure where you were allowed to camp. My idea is to go down like friday, camp near the trailhead, pack up, ride, set up camp, pack up, ride, and go home, so I wouldn't be leaving any gear out, no worries. Thanks for the tips!

There is also several campgrounds in the area, limited electric. A web site I visit called quadcrew.com has a forum for wayne where you can find the info you seek.

I sometimes camp at the longridge trailhead during Turkey season. There are a bunch of pulloffs on longridge road that are generally parked full with campers and tents during turkey season but any other time of the year I would imagine ATVer's use them as well. I blieve the last time I camped there I counted 11 campers and nearly as many tents. I also walked alot of those trails and they look pretty challenging. lots of hills, lots of mud holes and lots of deep ruts

BigDale is right about the trails, they get pretty messy especially if it is wet. it is a nice place though.

btw... BigDale- are you planning on camping down at long ridge trialhead this turkey season? i camp down there with my dad, uncles, and brother for deer and turkey.

Well, Better late than never I guess, I just stumbled on this. I am going to TRY to get down there this season sometime, I just have to see if I can make it with work. I will be camping either at long ridge or somewhere near the fire tower on sand run Rd. if I make it down, all depends on what area I decide to concentrate on.
