I hunt with a 16 most of the time. For Pheasant I use Winchester's in both 6's and 4's. For grouse I use Active 7 1/2's and 8's but I'm slowly running out of those and will have to get something else but I don't know what yet. I quit using Federal Classics' due to miss fires. The primers set a little deeper into the base on there 16 guage shells and I seemed to end up with soft primer hits at times.

For my 20 ga I use Fiocchi's because it takes 2 1/2" shells.

I use winchesters, 6's high velocity. Basically they were the cheapest I found. I didn't look that hard but I didn't do that much pheasant hunting. $9.99 a box of 25, I'm sure you could find them cheaper. No problems dropping pheasants dead at 40yds with them. Heading up to Delaware, north of Columbus this week for one last pheasant hunt at Lone Oak Hunting preserve. Going to be a blast. Went about a week ago and found that at this time of year its mating season and the pheasants absolutely do not want to fly. They are more concerned to protect the area they have for mating. Made for the best hunt of the year because it was actually hunting, not just shooting placed birds. Lone Oaks have guided hunts with pointers but won't guide this time of yr becasue of the birds running so much that pointer don't work. Literally have to run behind the lab to get the bird to flush. To bad he closes for the yr this weekend, would of been fun to get one or two more in.

I use Winchester high brass No 6's High Velocity. They seem to give me the best pattern out of my Mossberg 9200.

Basically the same here .. Winchester high brass, 5's or 6's for pheasant .. 6 or 7 1/2 for grouse ... Early in the year when there is a lot of cover I use 7 1/2's for grouse .. later when I think the birds might jump farther or I can get longer shots I generally swith to 6's .. Alot of times I will also, load a 7 1/2, followed by a 6, just in case I get a second shot ....

Winchester seems to be a favorite.

I picked up some PMC Field & Target because, like me, they were cheap up at Gander Mtn. They're 1 1/8 oz of 6's, low brass moving @ 1230 fps. I took them pheasant hunting & they just slammed those birds! Now I wish I had bought a couple of cases to use on crows as well. :D :D
Hmmmm....? Do you suppose they have some 7 1/2's & 8's I could stuff in my BPS 20ga' for grouse?

Don't shotguns, like rifles, have their favorite loads they like to shoot individually? I think I read that in a Lyman shotgun reloading manual one time. Now if that's the case ....... :D Go out & buy several different loads & start shooting birds, flesh or clay. If your buying the ammo I could take time out of my busy schedule & help you SHOOT, SHOOT, & SHOOT.:D :D :D

(My hubby the shootaholic! Coyote Kate)

Pay no attention to that woman behind that fur pelt!

That's very true. Ideally you should pattern you gun for bird hunting just like you would for turkey. Most people don't think about or are just too lazy(I fall into the latter). That's been a goal for a while but shooting a 16 ga sometimes I just have to buy what I can find.

Went to the Massilon & Summit County gun shows today & on the way home stopped at Gander Mtn. Low & behold they had those PMC's in 20 ga. #8's so I picked up a couple boxes. Now all I have to do is go to the range, throw some clays & set up my patterning board.(just don't expect a report anytime soon :o )

I like to us Remington #6 express these seem to do very well in my 870. And for bunnies and Doves I use Federal 71/2 's that I can buy 100 rounds for about 15.00. I was out of sixes when I went out this year ( and being lazy and chep lol ) I used what I had on me , #4 high brass steel and didn't loose any at all. In fact dropped every bird with one shot. Wish I could have the same luck with ducks lol, lol.

I use rem express 7 1/2 most of the time. I depends on the time of year. For grouse this is usally how I set it up. First shot is usally medium brass 7 1/2 shell. Followed by two rem express 7 1/2 shell. Followed by two 3' winchester suprems copper plated 7 1/2. Thats if I use my 24' gold upland special with a skeet choke. I use the same set up If I use my 22' browning a-5. Except I dont use the 3' suprems. I use 2 3/4 winchester turkey loads in 6s

Federal 6's for pheasants. Estate steel 3's for waterfowl. (Both 12 ga) A litle bit of everythig for grouse (28 ga). Mostly Remington. 7 1/2 or 8's, but I have been known to buy whatever they have for the 28, sometimes the picking is slim.
