Hunters told to shoot boar
News-Messenger reports

Ohio's deer-gun hunters are encouraged to harvest any feral swine they encounter in the wild in order to limit the spread of this destructive wild animal species in the state, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
Known in Ohio as "wild boars," they also are also called free-ranging European wild boar, Russian wild boar, wild pigs, wild hogs or razorbacks. These "eating machines" damage agricultural crops, degrade wildlife habitat and consume ground-nesting bird eggs, reptiles, amphibians, or just about anything else they come across, say state wildlife biologists. They also carry diseases that can infect domestic livestock, wildlife, and even people.

Wild boars have been reported in Belmont, Guernsey, Noble, Morgan, Hocking, Vinton, Washington, Gallia, Lawrence, Scioto, Butler, Preble, Logan and Champaign counties. The rangy-looking non-native members of the domestic swine family are increasing their distribution in Ohio, according to state wildlife biologists.
Wild boars feed most heavily at dawn and dusk, spending their days resting in dense vegetation or wallowing in mud holes. These nuisance animals may be legally harvested year-round by hunters with a valid Ohio hunting license or by landowners on their own property. During the deer-gun and the statewide muzzleloader seasons, a valid Ohio deer permit is also required and hunters should use only the firearm legal for the season.
The deer-gun season will be open through Dec. 3, from one half-hour before sunrise to sunset. New this season, hunters will have an additional gun-hunting weekend to pursue deer Dec. 16 and 17, statewide.
Approximately 400,000 hunters are expected to participate in the deer-gun season and 250,000 during the four-day muzzleloader season, Dece 27-30.
Feral pig sightings can be reported by e-mail through the Division of Wildlife's Web site at [URL="http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/contactform.asp?ref=/wildlife/default.htm"]http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/contactform.asp?ref=/wildlife/default.htm (http://www.ohiosportsman.com/forum/)

The ones in Champign county escaped off a guys farm. Think about 24 or so of them got away now theres estimated to be around 80 boars now.

I was poking fun at Coon always blaming the outfitter for EVERYTHING.

Actually, The wild boars have been here much longer than most will admit - and even though some have gotten out of high fence operations the majority have come from the south where they originate.

George knows the real truth........
That they were parachuted in, along with the rattlesnakes, by the DNR.

That's right :p I forgot about that;).
Didn't they do that to control the turkey population? Or was it to keep the coyotes in check?
Now I remember  it was to keep the outfitter population in check

Nah, the outfitter thing was just a surprise side benefit.

Like always, the ODNR was just looking to make a couple dollars off some rattlesnake tags. Money whores....with all their fancy cars and extravagent lifestyles....

(Unfortunately, I honestly wonder what % of people don't get the sarcasm in this post.)

I heard that the DNR was paid by the feds (pretty sure it was the guys at "The Wayne") to drop the hogs in with the snakes to make them mean so that the coyotes would keep the turkeys from getting all the lady beetles eaten up.

I am sure there are some that are reading this thing and believing every word of it.... Probably already posted the quotes on another forum:p "I told you it was true.......":bonk:

I know a guy whose cousin's, sister's, boyfriend's, 2nd uncle was one of the guys that put the rattlesnakes into the ballons and blew them up so the DNR could reintroduce them to help with the turkey overpopulation problem. :coolgleamA:
