Do any of you hunt turkeys on Ceasars Creek state land?? I live not 15 minutes away from this state park and the NWTF released birds here several years ago and now they have flourished out there. I don't hunt there due to the hunting pressure being out of this world. I would rather take the time and drive almost 2 hours to the farms I hunt in SE Ohio than put up with that place. But there is birds there. My buddy went out there last week just for fun and heard around 10 different birds. Just curious if any of you guys hunt out there?

hey 10 point i dont hunt there but as you seen from another post i do go down that way, if you know where the bow zone is there is a good flock of birds there, and ther are a good number of birds around the spillway area, i dont hunt there for the same reason as you said on that other post

My buddy went down last week to the horseman's camp just to hear some birds and he said he probably heard 8-10 birds back in there gobbling. There's birds there, but there's hunters too.

must be awful nice for you guys who have private access. this country boy stuck in the city sure has tried to get access...but have had no luck...
the best way to get private land is to have humility. i ran into about 30 "no"s before i got one yes just keep knocking and be nice because the next door you go to may be the one!!!!!!!!!:)

I have never had any problems getting access to private land for turkeys, but deer and waterfowl are another story.

bluestreak, if you call ODNR, and ask them for a list of property owners who is willing to let people hunt on ther land , they will send it to you, its called community access program, and what every districk your in they will send the list for each county

The landowners have signs up saying "hunting with permission only." I asked one guy who had these signs up not too long ago and he had 8 guys hunting on his 200 acres:eek: When I see these signs I go the other way because there is a good chance it gets hunted hard. I ask posted land mostly. From my experience, just because it's posted that doesn't mean they won't let you hunt. If you're nice and ask politely you might get a surprise.

thought I would give you guys an update...i called the ODNR and they said that they do not release any names of Community Access landowners "because all those guys from Cleveland would be bugging the people to death". It is frustrating. I've tried for 2 years to get access for turkey/deer hunting and had no luck. I have been nearly shot on public land and do not want to take my little bro back there (he wants to try for turkey for the first time this year). Being a hunter in the city limits is very tough. There are a lot of people around here who are very anti-hunting and I feel like I fight the good fight (pro-hunting) almost on a daily basis. People at work think I'm a dinosaur. So what is a guy to do? I am still young and am working like crazy for a chance to own some land later in life (God willing), but hunting is almost out of reach. Your thoughts (or moral support)...

bluestreak, thats a load of crap on ODNR part , thats why property owners sign up for that, so people can hunt on there land , and it gives the game warden access to the property, as soon as i get a chance ill call and get the list, send me an p.m. with your address and phone and ill do what i can for ya, and i need to know what countys you want it for .

I all ready have plans when I get out of school to buy me some land to hunt on, because year after year state land gets more crowded and private property closes up. I am so grateful that I don't have to wonder onto state land, but I put forth more effort than the averge joe. I drive for hours upon hours and do nothing but knock on doors. I do it every year, and each year I find it getting more difficult. I have heard too many horror stories about people getting shot on state land. If I had to hunt state land for turkeys I really don't know if I would hunt them or not. Too many yahoos out there. Deer season is even worse!
do what 10 point does make the time to knock on doors. you just have to understand that it will probably take 30 doors before you get a yes. if it is as important to you as it is for me then you will swollow 29 "no's" for one yes. good luck

accidents happen on private too, don't forget the archery deaths last year, private land...you are being paranoid...very little chance of getting shot no matter where you hunt, look how many are NOT shot, hunting is very accident free

CC hit it on the head. If you don't take time to get out and knock, you'll never find a spot. I remember one day I went to SE Ohio to find some places to hunt. I drove and knocked from 9am till dark. That day I probably asked over 20 people to hunt and if I remember correctly two said yes. It is hard. Some people don't think it's worth the money and time and would rather hunt state. At times I feel the same way when I'm out knocking and getting turned down, but when season comes in and I don't have crowds of hunters around me, it's worth every penny. But what kills me is last year I was eating lunch and some hunters came in and I started talking to them. They hunted state land that morning and worked several different birds they said. That morning I didn't hear a darn thing at the farm I was hunting on. Sometimes state land can be better than private. It just matters where you are at and how pressured the birds are. Just because someone hunts on private than doesn't mean the birds are easy by any means. There is some state land next to one of the farms I hunt on and I sometimes take advantage of that if there is some birds gobbling over there and none is gobbling on the private side where I am at. You have to be mobile as a turkey hunter.

Hey GeorgeT do you know where minkers run is ? I was down there a couple of weeks ago to do some scouting and alot of it seemed to be flooded. Didn't have any luck finding birds. Are there any other areas public or private in the Wayne area that birds might be found ?
