Hi Ladies,

Anyone been out deer hunting yet? Anyone having any luck? i have been out 3 times this weekend. First day i saw a nice little 6 point, but he was too far out of range. The second day in the morning didn't see anything. In the afternoon we went to a friend's farm to hunt where he put me up in one of his many stands located around the property. Just before dark I did see a nice buck, got my crossbow sites on him perfect and just as I got ready to pull the trigger something spooked him, and he took off before I could shoot.<sigh> At least i am seeing them, so hopefully I will get my first kill this year. Can't say that hubby is having as much luck he has been out with me every time and hasn't seen a thing. Kinda makes me feel bad for a minute....lol...but hey he doesn't need to see them, he has one hanging on the wall, it's my turn...lol.

Anyone else seeing anything? Let me know. I love reading the guys hunting stories, but I want to hear some from you ladies too, so lets get some chatting going here.

That needs to change.

Hi Jimmy and Ed,

Yeah I have seen a few, and hoping if I keep posting that some others will feel more comfortable and start posting too. I would really like to see more of the woman participating in here. I know I was a little hesitant at first too, but I like the fact that us woman have a special section on this forum and hope that it will start seeing some action soon.

Heather, Congrats on your 6 point! :D I don't kill deer and think it's from seeing dad's 14 point on the wall while I was growing up? I can skin one and cook it with no problem! Hubby's already got a buck and a doe in the freezer and it isn't gun season yet! Probably would be good for my marriage if I didn't go...I have begginers luck. 1st time turkey hunting, not 30 minutes, and shot a Jake and hubby never shot one yet. 1st bow tournament I won 2nd place, hubby won 3rd. See my point? Good luck to all hunters this season. Can't wait to hear the story's!

Thanks Shelly,

Nice to see you again. Yep can see your point, but that's ok. I am a better shot than Ben too, but I think he was as proud of me as I was of myself, although I have been teasing him a bit about it. He took over my stand which seems to be a hot spot, and messed up and missed one of out big boys. I felt bad for him at first, but now we joke about it.

The deer he has on the wall he got with the xbow last year, this year he wanted to try a compound. He practiced alot so he could make a good shot, and when it came down to it he had gloves on which he hadn't thought to practice with, and as he started to pull back his glove caught on the release and released early and the arrow hit the ground in front of his stand. He was pretty bumbed, and says he gives up he is taking the xbow, but I told him no way he wanted the compound, and he better use it....lol. Poor guy, I do feel bad for him, but hopefully he will get one soon. Unfortunately he works so doesn't have as much time to spend in the woods as I do.

Hi Heather, no I haven't had any luck yet. I haven't had many opportunities to get out. I don't know if I will get out again or not. Maybe one more time.
Good luck to all

Have any of you ladies had any additional luck? With gun season well under way, I thought some of you might have taken a deer.

8-point, 200# on the hoof, taken with a crossbow in Monroe County the day before gun season opened. I'd planned to gun hunt Monday and Tuesday, but arrived at my cabin early Sunday so I sat on stand for a couple hours with the crossbow. He came in about 5:00 pm. Quartering away, I finally took the shot he gave me, and he ran 65 yards before piling up about 15-20 feet into a brush line. I heard him crash, then go silent, but I made myself wait...

And I waited over an hour before I climbed down; the hardest part was cutting away all of the multi-flora rose so I could drag him into the open and haul him back to the garage with the ATV. Well, maybe that was the second hardest part--dragging 200# of dead weight just 15-20 feet through pricker bushes and up just a slight incline was no picnic, either. (Gawd, I felt like I was back in rookie firefighter school, dragging dummies around during search and rescue evolutions. That crap was fun when I was 26--it ain't so much fun at 45.)

Head's at the taxidermist and the meat's in the freezer. Now all I have to do is get two does during the two-day weekend and muzzleloader seasons and my freezer will be stuffed.

Pic is in the gallery. Right now all I have is a digital pic of him in the back of my truck; when I get the print photos and CD developed I'll post one of me and old "no-luck buck" that a friend took when I got home.

BTW, my avatar is of an 8-point I took last year with my muzzleloader, not of this year's buck.

Danka shorts, Ed! :D Two more photos are up, showing what I had to contend with when I recovered him. Seemed like it took forever to cut all that crap away and drag him barely 15-20 feet so I could finish the job with the ATV. Whew...I gotta quit drinking, lose weight and shoot the deer so they go down in the middle of a clear, flat and level field. Don't wanna be one a them fatal heart attack hunting statistics... ;)
