Went out Saturday morning and didn't see a thing. Went out at 3pm and on my way up the tree with my bow still on the ground a piebald 8 point ran two does right under my stand. Was constantly surrounded by turkeys it seemed and even sent an arrow at one, but it jumped/flew the string when I shot and I only managed to get some breast feathers. Then around 6pm it happened. I saw 2 does coming by way, then they suddenly jumped and ran a little ways off. I heard something scratching a tree off to my left and there he was. My first true "Booner" sighting on the family farm. 14 points of the biggest buck I've ever seen in the wild. Massive 10 point frame with G2's and G3's were all in the 11-12" range, G3's in the 5-6" range. His G2's were forked about halfway down. To add to it, he had double drop tines! Rack was one of the thickest I've seen and was roughly as wide as his ears and longer than his nose. 35 yards out he stood, but behind 2 branches that made a shot nearly impossible. I elected to wait and see if he'd head towards an opening at 30 yards. He moved to within 30 yards after rubbing the heck out of a tree. I drew my bow back, but as I did, It happened...The wind switched and blew right at him just as I was drawing back. Away he went along with dreams of adding a monster to the wall. Hope he doesn't vacate the area entirely.

Thats cool. Hope you get another crack at him. I saw a buck in Indian Hill the other night when I was patrolling and he was pushing 170 at least. This should be a great week around the Cincy area.

Wow. That had to be awesome.
I don't know if I'll be able to get out this week until friday. I could Tuesday possibly if it doesn't rain too hard. Wednesday would be perfect, but I'm meeting with a client at 4:00 and that ruins any chance at hunting Wednesday night. I supposed I could hunt some morning.

Thanks for sharing... get's the blood boilin'...
Goes to show that big deer do migrate or at least appear occasionally where they've never been seen before.(or have been there the whole time undetected) I sincerely hope he takes up residency in your neck of the woods. Jusdgin by the close proximity to the does and piebald buck... I'd say he's around for a little while. He's waiting on the, does.
Hunt all you can, practice best scent management you can and maybe he'll make a mistake. If it wasn't so close to rut, I'd say he's tagged that location as "man smelled"... but they knda do funky things.
I saw a nice 10 point 130 class or so run out of the field behind my house and run up into a housing development... that had NO trees... and he CLOPPED along the main road leading up into the division like he was delivering mail. Too funnny, but a good indication of just how out of sorts they become when horny.
And I agree with Tufelhundin.... double drops... I got my heart set on some for my wall someday.
