My prime hunting land my nieghbors owned got sold friday. The new owner said me and the previous owners grandson can continue hunting it, which they said before they bought it. I should of had them right that on paper. I drove by the property yesterday and 4 guys were un loading fourwheelers and tree stands gettin ready to go hang them. I stopped and asked what the *** is going on and the owner who said well let you hunt now said your not allowed to hunt here because him and some buddies are now hunting it, and we had a treestand on the property which we were going to go take down today and its gone. So now I gotta track this guy down and get my stand back.

Sorry to hear that traphunter. I am sure I will be facing that dilemma in a few years as the one property I hunt is owned by a 90 year old lady. She lives alone, but when I stopped in yesterday to see her, I dont know how much longer she can keep doing that. Its only a matter of time. People will say anything when they are buying property to the previous owner, because they are afraid it will wreck the deal if they say no to the people already hunting there.

I can understand your disapointment and disgust with the situation.
But, on the other hand, that guy that bought the property has every right in the world to change his mind anytime he wants to.
Even if he gave you written permission, I am sure he could revoke that any time he wanted to.
The written permission is not a lease agreement and is only written permission to allow you on the property on designated times, mostly as a waiver of liability for the land owner and required by law.
If I bought a piece of property and the previous owner allowed a bunch of people on it during deer season, I am afraid I would be a very un-popular guy in the area, because I would eliminate the former hunters, atleast until I got to know who was who and felt comfortable with them being on my property.
Most people who buy property have plans on what they are going to do with it and who among their friends and relatives will be allowed to hunt it and that is probably decided without considering people hunting the property with permission from the previous owner.
I do not think it is right for them to take your stand, and they should return it without question.
I would attempt to gain permission by getting aquainted with the new land owner and win his trust and friendship and then hope that he grants me permission to hunt again.
I see your side on him saying you could still hunt it, but I also see his side as in he has friends and such that he has probably known for a while that he is letting hunt the property.
I would probably done the same thing, I wouldnt want people that I do not know running all over my property, especially if I was planning on hunting it myself.

but, I know it is upsetting and does tick you off, but when property transfers all the rules change to the new owners request.

all you can do is try to get on his good side and gain permission again.

sorry to hear of your loss.
I lost some good property to hunt this year also, due to a sale.

sorry to hear that A88. :( do you have some other property to hunt? sure hope so. its bad timing for you but as 777 stated, situations with land are changing quickly. :(

i would go introduce yourself to the new landowner and very politely ask for your stand back. i certainly think he would return it to you. and hopefully he is waiting for you to show up and claim it. he is a proud new landowner taking control of his property. most likely a nice guy. did you happen to have any identification on the stand?

good luck man.

i got it back this evening- him and his buddies were out there cuting down trees all day and running fourwheelers and tearin the place up and makin fourwheeler paths in the woods. I have ten acres to hunt that wasnt sold. A small thicket and a hay field. Were puttin a treestand overlooking the hay field and the thicket. Its a alright spot. My friend has some land and Im gonna hunt with him for the time being until I get some property to hunt by myself. Im gonna do some quick scoutin this wednsday and get a stand location and hunt the rut.

TripleA88,

Again sorry baout your luck. On a side note I have always found it funny that soem of these people buy land, jump into modifying the land and cuttign stuff down ASAP. My buddy did this against everyones advice, he didnt know when to stop brush hogging, and cuttign stuff down. Well needless to say he changed the deer patterns big time, enough so that their was a significant drop off in deer sightings after the work was done. I just find it funny that people dont even learn the land before modifying it. So here is what will happen, your new landowner buddy and his friends will run all the deer out of there, they will hunt it this year and see nothing. By next year they will give up on it for hunting, thats when you come back and get permission, if you still want it.

Hopefully they stop tearin up the place soon before rut starts here in a couple of days. Theyve been out there every evening chainsawing and riding fourwheelers

I understand and feel your pain. One of my main places will be up for sale this winter. Landowner said he's got 2 bigguns out there, so I will be going for broke next week, trying like hell to bad one of these before I loose it for good.

haha the more Im down there the funnier it gets. I was up hangin a stand shortly before sun down in the hay field and about 60 yards to my right I could hear kids yelling and playing hide and go seek in the creek line. Then they lit an enormous bon fire and the guy was takin the kids on night rides on the qaud runner. Anyone think I should just give up on this spot? Some better news by the way. My parents are buying anywhere from 10 to 40 acres in vinton or hocking county, all woods, full of deer and turkey. :bouncy: :yikes:

Haha funny, thought about hunting out my back window or my roof, maybe even develop a high powered crossbow that could pull off shots down behind my house in the valley.
