Well I go all over the place to hunt and I hardly ever see anything. I drive considerable distances, just to end up seeing no deer. Well this evening I decided I would hunt the "back forty". We own some land that I try to manage for deer and other wildlife, but thanks to urban houseing developments and the thousand people that hunt on surrounding properties I hardly ever see any deer. Therefore I usually dont hunt it that much. Well I get setup tonight in between 2 of our fields. I can see our house from my stand. Low and behold I ended up seeing 7 deer. 5 does and 2 bucks. One of the does ( SHE WAS HUGE!) and both of the bucks passed within about 10 yards from my stand. The bucks were following the doe. I passed on all of them though because I already got a doe, and im waiting on a bigger buck. Anyway I know this probably isnt a big deal for most of you but this is the most deer I have saw all season and it got me pretty pumped. And it was right behind the house to boot!

Isnt it great when you dont really expect to see much, and just go "out back" for the fun of it, and end up seeing deer? Check out my post "October fun", very similar to your happenings..

I read that it was a great post. It is very exciting to see deer when you really expect to see nothing. Especially in your own back yard.

It's always nice to have a spot to fall back on close to home. Alot of people don't understand how just seeing a few deer can make it a successful hunt!

Gotta love walking out the back door and straight to your tree stand. I am fortunate enough to have 200+ acres of prime second growth timber, and open agricultural fields right in my backyard. Although, I have many other places I could bowhunt, and there are probably larger deer to be had at those other locations, but there is definatly something special about hunting on your own back forty. Its definatly my favorite place to hunt.

Drove about 3 hours one way last weekend to get to my property with my 9 year old son. We had fun watching a 6 pointer go underneath our stand and a few does and spikes.
On the way back home at 11pm, right at the entrance to our alotment, I saw this 10 pointer in 170 range, standing on the side of the road. I backed up and parked on the side, woke up my son and we watched him slowly walk away.
Drove 6 hours to come back and find him about 200 yards from my backyard:irked:
I wonder if I can setup a treestand in the yard. I am sure neighbors and homeowners association won't mind if I dress it up in christmas lights.
