Tonight I was practicing with the Hoyt and achieved my first Robin Hood at 20 yards. Completely stuck one arrow into the end of the other. Both were in the bullseye also. Started shooting at 30 yards and got sighted in really well. I'm honestly really confident about my abilities out to 30 yards. Pretty tight groups (after a half hour of practicing at 30 I was pretty much hitting the bullseye every time. Every once in awhile I find myself anticipating the shot a jerking to the left. I'm really surprised at my progression, since I hadn't seriously shot a compound in 3-4 years. This is also the first bow that I've had that is actually set up perfect for me.

i believe shootin a bow is like ridin a bike...once you got it...an you leave it for awhile...it wont take long til you were back where you were before...as long as you are physically able to do it...and i know i could be back in the kill zone with muh old compound easily within 1 hour...a recurve would take a lot longer...unless i shoot much closer at the target...:mischeif:

This is my second year hunting with my Hoyt Vtec.

So far this year I have harvested a Buck and a doe. Both were taken from a tree stand . The Buck was shot at 18 yards, the doe was a 30 yard shot. Both shots were double lungers!

I have a 40 yard archery 3D, and target range, set up out back and can consistently stick the arrows in a small 5"X5" square at 30 and 35 yards.

At 30 yards I shoot comfortable, and that is about my limit in the woods while hunting deer. Most trees I hunt from have only about a 30 yard limit due to other tree branches and foliage on the ground.

Stick with it, shots on deer with that Hoyt are a real possibility out to 35 yards!

Good Luck this year!

A couple of hours after posting my previous, I shot my first "Robin Hood" of 2006 at 35 yards!

My Hoyt brothers come together!! Good to hear you are making progress with your compound Redhunter. Those Hoyt's are very proficient at 35 yards. Was messing around and shooting a hard plastic drum at 100 yards today and the arrows had enough energy even at that distance to penetrate the thing. You guys need to start shooting at different targets or this is gonna get real expensive for ya'll. Now go out there and harvest yerself a doe with that bad boy.

I did it for the first time this year as well. Have the two arrows on the wall.

I got my first one this year as well. I had a new peep installed and the first 2 shots out were a robin hood. Not to shabby for a new peep! Not bad for the guy they call "Wal-Mart Special" either. Even Wal-Mart bows will do it.

Well this must be the year for Robin Hoods. I got mine with a 21st Century longbow at around 16 yds. I had only owned the bow for 1 day.

After a few RH's and an unnoticed split nock that cost me a blow up, I don't aim at the same spot with a second arrow.

....and if you shoot a xbow NEVER shoot at the same spot twice! ooops I let the secret out....seriously, I bought a block target this year and love those 5 little dots...it has saved me soooo many carbon arrows this summer!
